The Alfa Romeo Milano at Balocco: the brand wants to reassure Alfists

With just over 2 months to go before its presentation, Alfa Romeo unveils its Milano on the Balocco circuitto reassure alfists.

"An Alfa Romeo, on a CMP platform, with an electric or Puretech engine, never in a million years!" That's what comes out of the mouths (or keyboards) of the majority of Alfa enthusiasts, whatever their nationality. Alfa Romeo is well aware of this and plays the reassurance card by unveiling its small SUV Milano on the famous Balocco track.

The Milano is surrounded in the photo by engineers who have worked on legendary Alfa Romeo models such as the 4C, 8C and Giulia GTA. Domenico Bagnasco, responsible for validating the vehicle's dynamic synthesis, Stefano Cereda, who made his Alfa Romeo debut with the Giorgio project, and Luigi Domenichelli, in charge of integrating and validating all the vehicle's sub-assemblies in terms of performance, durability and comfort.

The Alfa Romeo Milano will be presented to the world on April 10 in Milan, and we hope to be there for the event, and to test-drive this model in June 😉

  1. A suv for dummies, it's useless, heavier, less aerodynamic and consumes more, for less space. This is for people who don't like what Alfa Romeo and the automobile are all about.

    • I'm afraid this is true in the auto industry in general at the moment.
      Alfa Romeo is only joining the silly waves as a means of survival as the market trend cannot be entirely ignored.
      But the future will also bring new trends and exciting cars again.

  2. Even the camouflaged design seems to resemble the photos that have been circulating.
    A real Alfa Romeo means real engines, but certainly not electric or internal combustion engines already seen too much in other Stellantis cars.

    • Oh yes! It looks just like the photos that have been circulating! I'm so sick of it! With PSA's signature rambling, there was-no pun intended-only a sensual, bewitching plumage worthy of the brand that could save this car. But these images seem to indicate quite the opposite! All this cinema at Balocco is nothing but PR. Perhaps the brand's intention is no longer to appeal to the insufficient number of Alfistas, but to "broaden its appeal to the general public" (without wishing to be pejorative about this non-Alfist clientele)... This logic of mutualization, which I can understand, must not be synonymous with such a watering-down of the brand... Watering-down, to be diplomatic and not use the words betrayal and trampling on an identity, a DNA, values... Other times, other mores! We'll see what the future brings!

  3. I've been an Alfista for many years but when I see what's become of Alfa Romeo. No, my Stelvio is my last. I still have my Brera Spider. It's impossible to see that

    • We're not going to talk about the Brera, because it's far from a success. If we're going to keep a coupe, the GT in V6.
      The 4C, the Giulia and the Stelvio will be urgent collectors' items.

    • The Brera was my last Alfa, precisely because for me it was no longer completely an Alfa. My last real Alfa was the GTV 916 V6 3.0 coupé, even though it was based on the Fiat platform.

  4. I'm glad there's a new model. You criticize the new engines, but with the new malus, it's impossible to release an engine without hybridization, especially in France.

    • I'm the only one who's shocked that the license plate isn't offset?
      So you're going to tell me that before the 2000s, Alfa Romeo plates weren't on the side either, and you'd be right.
      But it's been a little over 20 years now that everyone recognizes an Alfa by its design and, above all, its distinctive features such as the scudeto grille or that famous offset license plate.
      I think it's a real shame to abandon this idea, which could also give a slightly different design to the 2008, even if it won't prevent it from being recognized, it was at least a different detail.
      And as for the engine, I don't agree either. Hybridization is needed nowadays, we agree, we don't really leave them much choice after all, but seriously, the 1.2 puretech is reputed to be very reliable (it's ironic), so of course it's been overhauled, but for me that's not enough.
      What's more, Alfa Romeo claims to be premium and shares everything with Peugeot, so theoretically they're not in the same category.
      It's normal to have common platforms to lower costs, but you shouldn't rebadge the same car 5 or 6 times, especially if it has the same power and chassis.
      I at least hope that Alfa has reworked the chassis and engine power.
      And for me, the big mistake is the switch to the 100% electric, you have to keep another hybrid or combustion technology, not put your eggs in the same basket because if electric isn't it's all over, you've got nothing else but that, how are they going to get back on their feet afterwards?
      We complained a lot about the Margionne era, but Tavares is a much bigger loser. All he wants to do is develop Peugeot in the United States and other foreign countries, and the Italian brands - who cares, they're crap, except that there are people who love them despite their flaws.

  5. I'm afraid that Alfa Romeo is gradually losing some of its former soul, so endearing, with the Stelantis group acquiring PSA powertrains and drivetrain platforms. What a pity that this group has not created a division quite distinct from its mass-market vehicles.

  7. I had an Alfa a long time ago and have fond memories of its engine and sound.
    And now we see an Alfa with a Purtech. Which is an industrial accident, an infamous piece of crap. I know what I'm talking about, I have an Opel with this horror. The worst engine I've ever had in my long motoring career.

  8. I don't get the impression that it features the Tonale's light signature, and in these images it's fitted with low-profile, wide-profile tires mounted on 21" rims...? If it's to bear some resemblance to the 33 Stradale of 2023, all that's left is the possibility of round taillights (like the Mito with the 8C competizione). Dynamically, it seems to turn very flat. As for the engine, don't expect any miracles, like the rebirth of the boxer. It'll probably be like the 600, with a forthcoming evocation announcing 240 hp for the Stellantis galaxy. For the moment, I'm continuing to look after my GT, which celebrates its 19th birthday this year and still hasn't had a successor from the biscione brand.

  9. Frankly, they've got it all: there's neither the technology (copying a Peugeot) nor the design to save this thing they call Alfa.
    As far as design is concerned, I have the impression that the new head of design has decided to throw out the heritage of his predecessors (offset license plate, 3-arc light signature...): he wants to import his Dacia design to Alfa... 😱🤬😱

  10. The SUV look is unpleasant, and it looks like a camouflaged 2008. An Alfa should have an Alpha line like Dolce Vita, not a moving van. Georgia Meloni complains that Stellantis now only makes Peugeots, and on that point she's right.

  11. I have no problem with a common chassis for the whole group. VW has been doing it for a long time, and no one has a problem with it.
    However, I can't understand why they insist on this Puretech, when the Fiat Firefly is an excellent engine. And it's not a chassis problem: the Peugeot 208 is sold in Brazil with the 1.0 Firefly.

  12. The Milano isn't an Alfa Romeo, it's a van! It's got all the makings of an SUV, and I've no intention of driving around in this type of vehicle, so let's leave it to the pizza delivery guys, who'll be happy with it.
    I intend to keep my Giulia and Giulietta, whose design is far more glamorous, for a long time to come.
