Here is the new Alfa Romeo 2030 product plan announced by Stellantis... it was very short and disappointing

At the Investor Day of Stellantis, There were high expectations for the Italian brands. After several months of rumours, delayed projects and strategic repositioning, this presentation was finally intended to give a clear vision of the future for’Alfa Romeo by 2030. And yet, within seconds, it was all over.

While Fiat had its own presentation in some detail and Maserati was at least briefly mentioned at the start of the presentation, the Alfa Romeo sequence was dispatched in a mere twenty seconds. A simple slide, a few models displayed, a quick “More to come”... then on to the next subject. And to be honest, although we're disappointed, we're not really surprised.

A stripped-down Alfa Romeo range until 2030

What Stellantis has confirmed is that by 2030, Alfa Romeo's range will essentially be based on five models: the Alfa Romeo Junior, Alfa Romeo Tonale, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio, plus a new C-SUV.

This famous “A4U” project, which we've been telling you about for some time now, has now been confirmed. Initially conceived as a replacement for the Alfa Romeo Tonale, it could finally change its name and become a fully-fledged model in the range. Its presentation is expected by the end of 2026 (yes, because 20 seconds is too short to give a date).

The presentation also mentions the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, However, it was unveiled as early as 2023 and only 33 units were produced. A future “made-to-measure” project was also quickly mentioned. Here again, nothing really new, since we had already talked about this possible exclusive sports car, which could take the shape of a very limited spider.

A very blurred vision for Giulia and Stelvio

So what can we really expect between now and 2030? Visit Alfa Romeo Junior should continue its career, probably with several updates over the years. The new C-SUV will arrive by the end of 2026. As for the Alfa Romeo Tonale, Freshly restyled, everything points to a gradual end to its career before 2030.

Advertising

Future generations of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio are still planned (we hope so, nothing has been said), probably around 2027 or 2028. But here again, no concrete information. No design, no detailed platform, no engines, no clear strategy. And that's the problem.

No compact, no GTV, no dream

Many were hoping for more. A new compact car? The return of an Alfa Romeo GTV? Technical details on the future Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio? A truly ambitious product vision? None of these were forthcoming.

Above all, this presentation gives the impression that Alfa Romeo is now run on a bare-bones basis. A brand that continues to exist, but without any real impetus or exciting long-term vision. As we at Italpassion have been sensing for several months, Alfa Romeo, like Maserati, seems to be gradually becoming a secondary player in the Stellantis galaxy.

Because beyond the numbers and PowerPoint slides, a brand like Alfa Romeo needs passion, desire and vision to continue to make people dream. Today, it's hard to say that this presentation has reassured us on this point.

Fortunately, there are still Italian brands capable of thrilling enthusiasts, like Ferrari or Lamborghini. Without them, frankly, there are days when you'd almost wonder why we continue to talk about Italian cars with such passion.

  1. 6 months to wait for this 😄

What can we expect from a group that first wants to develop its technologies for low-cost brands, before passing them on to so-called premium brands?

It's as if Alpine had to wait for Dacia and Renault to develop their engines and technologies before gaining access to them.

    This group's leaders are unstoppable.

  2. To sum up, the future Giulia and Stelvio are no longer even on the drawing board, and the next 2 models to come are :
    - a rebadged Peugeot 3008.
    - a limited edition coupé costing several hundred thousand euros.

    Grande Filosa 🤢

    • I fully agree. And at least Alfa Romeo could have used to transform the Peugeot 408 into a Alfa Romeo. The base is easy to transform. But they didn't do anything.

    • I noted across the presentation little was said about the replacements for existing models. You cannot tell your competitors everything. Alfa can have all its models replaced in the cycle and add a new csuv as the cars above it rise in size. Remember nothing was said about Lancia and DS other than their place in the new structure... This presentation was tailored to a mostly American audience of bean counters.

  3. Alfa Romeo, like Citroen and Opel, was announced today as a secondary, «regional» brand. Basically, no more technological initiatives, no more specificity either, less investment... A simple brand (sub-brand) that will only run at a lower cost in markets where they are still doing well (for Alfa, which ones?). It's to be expected, but I was still hopeful that they would try to make Alfa the Group's Premium brand for Europe. Obviously, it'll just be a rebadge like Junior.

  4. Incidentally, Abarth is returning to the FIAT fold, just as DS is returning to Citroën. Even Lancia will obviously no longer exist as a brand, but as a label within Fiat. Can't wait to see how they manage this. Fiat's luxury end?

Coming soon: a Fiat Grizzli Abarth and a Fiat Grizzli Lancia edizione for those looking for a bit more chrome than carbon?

  6. What an absolute wasted opportunity of brand management and vision and such a shame!
I was hoping Alfa could at least be as competitive as cupra or alpine. Dread to think what the new giulia/stelvio will be like. Let's just hope.
Best case scenario another brand with a real vision buys alfa.

  7. It's true that the slide doesn't mention any new Giulia or Stelvio.

After that, I'm reassuring myself as best I can, but the slide in question presents the current range and talks below about «add» i.e. «ajouter» with a new C-SuV (a 3D presentation has actually taken place and we're already talking about it on club alfa.it ! )

    But «add» is not «renew».

I may be reassuring myself as best I can, but this may be an explanation and does not mean the end of the new Giulia and Stelvio.

    • for the 3D on the Italian site (which is nothing but a content thief, by the way), it's an AI-generated image extrapolated by a user on an Italian forum from a pixelated image during the presentation that displayed a tiny red car. In short, they're slow to point out that they're going to get views with their site with this.

  8. Here we are. What's happening to Stellantis prefigures what will happen to other European groups.... failing to be a forerunner in the automotive industry, Stellantis can boast of being ahead of its European friends in the decline. I'm sad for Alfa Romeo, a historic brand with a mechanical tradition and pure Italian design. SHAME ON YOU!

    • For the Stelvio and Giulia, like the 4C, they've never had a competent one!
On this point, FCA and PSA have found each other... 2 of the 3 wankers (VAG groupe is the 3rd) are Olympic champions of chronic incompetence.

  9. There will only be models based on common platforms and common powertrains, and therefore common identities.
There are small styling effects, «worked» upholstery or dashboard, just a sprinkling.
The car, apart from in this forum, is no longer necessarily an object of passion but an object of consumption or perhaps of social success.

  10. As a great philosopher once said, I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed.
So many months of waiting, only to have it shipped out in just a few minutes, it's almost a travesty!

  11. So, while we wait for yet another SUV to be presented, perhaps at the end of 2026, an overpriced limited series, and the new Giulia and Stelvio in 2027-2028, nothing at all, other than a survival diet with the Junior and Tonale, and the current Giulia and Stelvio without petrol engines, apart from the Quadrifoglio models.
It's disappointing, to say the least.

  12. I don't blame Filosa. After all the damage left by Tavares and his team, it's hard to release products on par with current Giulia e Stelvio, especially considering the fact that their success would be uncertain. He must stabilise the financial situation of the group first.

  13. I'm hoping that when Maserati's plans are released in December, they will include plans for Alfa to share its platforms. That would make sense on so many levels. And would explain why there is so little information about Alfa at the moment.

  14. Management of Stellantis is the problem. They have created their own abyss. Some probably don't even care. Only think of their bonus and pension. It's terrible how Stellantis has wasted Alfa Romeo, and soon also Abarth, Lancia and Maserati.

  15. No new models, so no sales, so no new models. All that's left is to hope that Geely or BYD will buy Alfa...Waterloo, a bleak plain.

  16. A boring and sad new product plan for all the brands, but at least it's consistent with their boring and sad cars.
For Alfa, in the absence of anything new, I'm hoping at least for a redesign of the Stelvio and Giulia, with a modernized exterior and interior and at least one more Italian petrol engine.
I was hoping for a new compact car, but it's going to be yet another CUV, probably a rebadged 3008 like the one Lancia's coming out with (if it really comes out). Nothing Italian anymore, just like Fiat. I'll be keeping my pretty Bravo Sport for a while yet, for want of an alternative I like.

  17. Doubts remain as to the nature of this new C-SUV:

this could be the «historic» A4U project based on STLA Medium and therefore a cousin of 3008/5008, DS N°7/8, Lancia Gamma, C5 Aircross, Jeep Compass

    OR

a Leapmotor-based clone of the future SUVs expected from Peugeot and Opel in 2028

    Reply
    • As far as I'm concerned, according to the presentation, the Opel C-SUV is based on a Leapmotor, but the Peugeot (STLA One) isn't. This temporarily removes the possibility of an Alfa based on a Chinese model.

  18. As already said, they've released the Giulia, the Stelvio and the 4C (although I prefer a scorpion 🦂 on it that goes with the 124) as well as the 8C so I don't expect anything more from this brand.
If Maserati goes the same way, basta too!
In any case, pure thermics are a thing of the past, as is automotive emotion.
The proof is when you put PSA parts whose quality makes the Chinese laugh... you can't go any lower, you've hit rock bottom!

  19. We complained about Alfa Romeo's treatment during the Marchione era....but we hadn't seen anything yet, with Stellantis we've reached new heights in the mistreatment of this mytic brand....Marchione must be turning in his grave and must certainly regret not having sold it to VW! 😂😂😂

    Reply
    • When you see the unsaleable garbage at VAG and the state of disrepair of Audi, Porsche and VAG, Alfa would be like SEAT, a dead brand with VAG.🤣

      Reply
    • Sergio Marchionne probably didn't renew the Alfa Romeo and Fiat range enough (Giulietta and Punto in particular), but we owe him the Giulia and Stelvio, which almost 10 years after their release are still the best sedans and SUVs in their segment, with the exceptional Giorgio chassis. With Marchionne, Italian cars were 100% Italian.

      • But they don't sell because they go against the market. Alfa Romeo's image management is emotionally and aesthetically brilliant, but less effective when it comes to strategic coherence and long-term trust.

  20. Well, the best, if you ask me! Because in commercial terms, it's a long way from the scores achieved by a 156, for example (which was also an excellent hunting sedan/break).
As for Merchione...he cut investment by half...as a result, factories aged and models were not replaced. Customers were told to go to hell (Giulietta customers, for example). Remarkable business attitude, as we see it now. Personally, I was a fan of Lancia ( 100% Italian cars, the Thema or Flavia by Merchi ). FCA is like Stellantis ....

  21. According to passione.auto.italiane, it would appear that Alfa has issued a press release confirming that the Giulia and Stelvio will simply be postponed, and not discontinued, as the current models will be produced until 2027. If that's the case, nothing new. All the more so as it confirms my impression that the May 23 slide showed only «range additions» and not «renewals». To be confirmed by other sources, as I don't have the press release in front of me.

  22. The New C-SUV is also announced, apparently according to the same site, as a continuation of the 147/Giulietta, combining innovation and the brand's ADn. Well, in my opinion, passione.auto.italiane is getting a little carried away with the idea of the return of a compact car. For me, it's just a marketing ploy to sell a new SUV. But it remains to be seen what the spirit of this one will be. If it's based on a «Cupra Formentor» spirit, it could be a big hit and partly replace a traditional compact...

  23. Alfa Romeo's image management focuses on loyalty, emotion and aesthetics, but is less effective when it comes to strategic coherence and long-term trust. Disastrous policy. A new Giulia, for example, is due, but there's no clear idea of an exit.

    Mijn hart huilt. 😢😥
