New Fiat Panda: design, engines, price, what we know 2 months before its unveiling

After having renamed its Panda to Pandinaand prolonged passage its lifespan to at least 2030Fiat is set to take another crucial step forward with the unveiling of the new Panda in July 2024. It will have the difficult task of bringing volume, especially in countries where the brand is losing ground in 2023Italy, Germany, France and Spain. So, design, engines and price, here's what we know 2 months before its presentation.

Design, between tradition and the future

The concept for the new Panda germinated long before its imminent presentation. Remember that in 2019, at the Geneva Motor Show, Fiat unveiled the Centoventi, a small electric city car that hinted at the future of the Panda. futuristic design of the Panda. Despite its positive reception, this conceptual model remained in the mock-up stage.

However, the merger between PSA and FCA, giving birth to Stellantis in 2021, has changed all that. With access to PSA's resources, Fiat has abandoned the Centoventi (whose technical details are unknown) in favor of an all-new Panda, based on the Smart Car platform and intended not just for Europe, but for the rest of the world. be a global modelin accordance with Olivier François' statement at the presentation of the new concepts. Under the direction of François Leboine, a former Renault employee who worked on the R5 concept, the new Panda has been reimagined, inspired by the iconic 1980 design.

The new Panda will share certain features with its cousin, the new Citroën e-C3.While the Panda will be larger than the Pandina, it will be distinguished by distinctive Fiat elements, including callbacks to the original 1980 model. Although it will be larger than the Pandina, the Panda 2024 will retain its iconic cubic silhouette, with modern touches such as an imposing grille and a new light signature.

The concept offers a glimpse of the future Panda's interior. With a streamlined oval dashboard and a focus on functionality, Fiat aims to offer a pleasant experience while reducing polluting materials.

Powertrains, electrics and more

Unsurprisingly, the Smart Car platform enables the future Panda to offer a varied range of powertrains, including thermal, micro-hybrid and fully electric options.

The motor paletteidentical to that of the Citroën ë-C3 and C3 Aircross, includes a three-cylinder 1.2 PureTech100 hp, and an 83 kW (113 hp) electric motor developed by Emotors (a subsidiary of Stellantis), and manufactured in France, coupled to a 44 kWh battery, for an estimated range of 320 km.

Attractive prices

Made in Serbia in the Stellantis plant in Kragujevac (historically a Fiat plant where the 500L was produced), the Panda 2024 will be unveiled on July 11, with deliveries scheduled for autumn 2024.

With prices aiming to remain competitive, the Panda should offer a entry-level below €15,000 for the petrol versionThe electric version will start at around €23,000, and an Eco version, expected in 2025, should go on sale for less than €20,000. Fiat also plans to extend the Panda family with a compact SUV, called Multipla or Giga-Panda, scheduled for 2025.

  1. I prefer the plunging hood of a Lamborghini... or the late, lamented Punto. This bad fashion for a thick, perpendicular front end "à la camion" is not at all aerodynamic. We need to go back to the perfect egg shape. And, for a change, this new Panda is still powered by the Puretech, admittedly with timing chain. However, we read that this marvellous engine runs out of oil after 80,000 kms due to poor segmentation.

    • If the new Panda starts at less than €15,000, they're going to have to slash the price of the Pandina... which is currently at that price in City Cross...

  2. Hitherto known for its sturdiness and Made in Italy quality, it will now be produced on a C3 made in Serbia and powered by the fabulous PureToc.

The "industrial power of Stellantis" they call it...

  3. Fiat has a very good engine, the Firefly, but putting a PureTech in the future Panda is depressing.
Let's hope the future Panda doesn't look like this concept car.

  4. I'm sorry the Centoventi won't be produced! too bad, because I'm sure it would have been a huge success! I find it hard to understand Fiat's management! the François is getting on my nerves!

  5. Well, the Italian three-cylinder Firefly engine may come back from South America one day... but I certainly won't be waiting for the electric motor. The customer is king, they say, despite increasingly stringent regulations. I've just tried out the new Swift: its 82 hp three-cylinder engine seems pretty convincing, but if it had 20 more hp, it would be the best. Meanwhile, at my petrol station, diesel is now 21 centimes cheaper than regular petrol... I'm repeating myself: it's just provocation.
