Alfa Romeo Milano: what we know just hours before the unveiling

On the eve of the eagerly awaited announcement of the new SUV Alfa Romeo Milanoalfists are holding their breath. This model promises not only to inaugurate a new design direction for Alfa Romeo but also to make a complete break with previous creations, notably the Tonale SUV. The moment of take a look at what's in store for the Milano just a few hours before its unveiling.

The design

Alfa Romeo has a major challenge ahead of it, a brand known for its distinctive Italian design. Iconic models such as the 159, Brera, Mito, Giulietta, 4C, Giulia and Stelvio stand out in the automotive landscape, reflecting a strong heritage and identity.

Face to image leaks from the outside and from the insideHowever, there's a certain reserve in the air, in the hope that the Milano won't look too much like its cousins such as the Peugeot 2008, Jeep Avenger or Opel Mokka.

The platform

The Milano will be based on the CMP platform, shared with certain Peugeots and the recent Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600. Alfa Romeo claims it will be the most dynamic SUV in its class. It's not impossible that it shares some tuning with the future Abarth 600.

It probably won't be up to the level of the Giulia and Stelvio, which are still benchmarks today thanks to the Giorgio platform, but compared with the Alfa Romeo Tonale, which is on an old Fiat platform, it's possible to be optimistic.

Under the hood

The Milano is expected to be equipped with a 1.2L PureTech engine and offer an electric 100% version. No Italian engine, then, nor the Firefly already present in the Tonale, let alone the GME found in the current Giulia and Stelvio. It remains to be seen, and to be tested, whether these engines will be sufficient to make a sporty SUV.

DNA in question

The question of the Milano's Italian identity arises. With a French CMP platform, a French PureTech engine and production in Tychy, Poland, only the design, conceived at the Turin styling center, truly bears the Italian DNA. This point underlines the crucial importance of design in the Milano's identity.

A new start for Alfa Romeo

The Milano represents a turning point for Alfa Romeo as the first fully Stellantised model, and as an entry-level model destined to replace the Mito and Giulietta. Despite the concerns, this presentation should be approached with an open mind, ready to be seduced by its design and driving dynamics. We can only hope that Alfa Romeo has some surprises in store for us, such as something other than the usual black interiors that have become commonplace on new models.

  1. Apologies for being so negative, but what has happened is that the "new" Milano has a french cmp platform, french/peugeot ice engine, french electric motor (Electric drive modules), not so sure where the batteries come from, italian gearbox (electrified dual-clutch transmissions (eDCTs)), designed in Italy and assembled in Poland, we therefore cannot call this vehicle "made in Italy" anymore but is badged as an Alfa Romeo - not sure how they arrived at the Alfa Romeo DNA though, if it has any that is

  2. And Italian engines for God's sake! That's what we want, not PureTech or the 156 hp electric motor we've already seen everywhere from Stellantis.
In terms of design, a pleasant surprise seems possible.

    • Everything about this car smacks of betrayal! I'm afraid so. I don't understand it. I'm at a loss. How did you approve a project like this? It totally escapes me!

      • I agree completely. It's incomprehensible. I'm disgusted with the first leaked images... what's with the design 😱....

  3. A few images of the front and rear have been leaked.
If these images are genuine, I wonder if the only thing Italian about this car - namely the design - has more to do with something Korean! The front end is convoluted and tortuous, with a "plastic" effect on the front grille that takes up the coat of arms, but which is in very bad taste! At the rear, under the lights, a large, inelegant rectangular panel looks a bit clunky. Nothing uncluttered or timeless! I'm deeply disappointed! This car doesn't appeal to me at all. I find it a bit gimmicky, almost crude!

  4. I've also just seen a short video showing the Milano's front end, grille and headlights: a horror, if confirmed tomorrow.
You might as well announce the end of Alfa Romeo.

  5. The tonal is ugly, instead of being an Italian starlet, it has a c..de grosse mama, and for the Milano, it's the alfa of shame with an engine, 1 l 1.2 pure Tech😅😅😅😅😅!!!!
Peugeot knows how to make chassis, but Fiat knows how to make engines. It's about time the real boss of stellantis, John Elkann Agnelli, reminded his underling Tavares of this.
The second part of the fun will be when we see the results of the Lancia epsilon😅 figures.

  6. The leaked images of the front and rear will allow the Milano to provoke just one thing: for everyone to run out and buy the last Giulia and Stelvio still in dealerships!!!! Povera Alfa!!! And I thought JP Imparato was in love with the brand.....quelle désillusion....

      • All these negative comments leave me speechless! The only thing that counts is the model's success or name! Even if it's true that it lacks a dose of ALFA DNA, the main thing is its success! Just look at BMW when they switched to front-wheel drive: the purists cried scandal, but the average person didn't even know that BMWs were basically rear-wheel drive..... just as the Bangle-designed 7-series never sold as many units....the 7-series had nothing to do with the brand's DNA and yet.....
        So we'll see

  7. If the leaked images are anything to go by, the reality of what's to be made official today !!!! Italian charm and design have given way to a panzer cut to the bone.

Where are the beautiful, sensual curves of the 147, Giulia, etc....Here it's all sharp, cutting edges.......what sadness!!!!

If reality confirms the leaked images, it's a massacre of Alfa Romeo's past history.

  8. If this is indeed what we saw, it's even worse than the leaked 3D model 8) An unmitigated disgrace, ha si, "Milano" when there's nothing Italian about it 🙂 If I were the City of Milan, I'd sue Stellantis xD

    Farewell Alfa.

  9. This car is anything but Italian, French platform and engines, European and Chinese components, designed by a Spaniard and manufactured in Poland, tell me what's Italian about it?...not to mention that it looks like anything but an Alfa!

  10. The problem with designing a compact SUV is that it's easy to end up with crazy proportions, like a huge grille that you don't know how to dress up. So you fill it in with bits of plastic... People talk about Vinfast. Even though I was warned, I wasn't ready.

  11. I'll wait for the official presentation. But if what we see is real, we'll be able to say that Stellantis wants Alfa Romeo to disappear.

  12. I leaked the two photos of the Milano model in white. It's a total design flop. It's ugly. It's a restyled Peugeot 2008. The front lights are unattractive. The rear end is a mess. What's that long black stripe around the boot? It's Peugeot style.
    Peugeot chassis and mechanics.
How can we win over the Alfisti with this model, which is a total failure on the part of the Stellantis group with no Alfa Romeo engines? They've run out of money to make their own Italian engines.
Launch level. A failure. This is not the model that will seriously relaunch the brand. They should rethink their copy. It's 0/20.
We want and demand real Alfa Romeo models with Italian engines worthy of the brand. Not a Peugeot model redesigned by Italian designers.
This model is a pure failure.
We're not being sold an Alfa Romeo. We're being sold a Peugeot. We don't care. We have a certain standard and they don't take that into account.
Clearly, I won't be buying this model and Alfa Romeo has definitely lost a customer.
I don't congratulate Mr Imparato and his team.
What makes the Alfa Romeo brand so proud? It's the quality of its Italian engines, its roadholding, the quality of its chassis and its design.
I don't think Mr Imparato knows the Alfa Romeo spirit and the essence of its Italian sporting DNA. Here, he doesn't tire himself out. He takes Peugeot and gives it a makeover.

  13. I've seen other photos on a site. I think the Milano is largely as ugly as a Citroën C3. There's nothing Italian about it any more, and that wide strip at the back, how can I put it?
The design is heavy and crude, worthy of an uninspired stylist. Add to this the Peugeot engines, and you're almost tempted to prefer a Peugeot, given that it's the same car. Shame on Imparato and Stellantis, the gravediggers of Alfa Romeo.

  14. I can't get over these photos. How can they make such a disgusting car and then tease us that 147, Guilietta or Mito lovers won't be disappointed...

  15. Seen live just now: no thanks. This is not sportiness, this is not Italian style. This is not Alfa Romeo. The only interesting Alfa Romeos are, for the time being, the Giulia and Stelvio, or used Alfa Romeos. Stellantis is definitely a disaster for Italian brands.

  16. I had the 155 2,5td then 156 2,4 jtd and 159ti the last guilia. The Milano I find the front too loaded and not at all the style alfa in addition with the puretoc is just impossible with this engine m...
