Maserati suspends the launch of its electric supercar

What we had suspected for several months now seems to be confirmed. The electric supercar project Maseratithe long-awaited MC20 Folgore then MC25 Folgore, has just been officially suspended. This announcement, confirmed by the Italian trade union FIM CISL, highlights the current difficulties of the trident brand and raises new questions about its future in electrification.

A project bogged down

Roadmap Maserati 2020 - 2024 by FCA

A few years ago, the FCA group promised a very ambitious model for Maserati, an electric supercar. This project first gave rise to the MC20, the V6-powered thermal supercar, the 100 % electric model to be presented shortly afterwards, in 2022. However, the project has been postponed several times, only to be unveiled by 2025.

Roadmap Maserati 2023 - 2025 by Stellantis

Then, according to our information of a few months ago, the MC20 Folgore had disappeared from the product plan, making way for the MC25 and MC25 Cielo. Recent statements by the Italian trade union FIM CISL confirm what we feared". Implementation of the all-electric Folgore platform on the MC20 and MC20 Cielo, scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, has been suspended." . Will this model ever see the light of day, or has it simply been cancelled?

According to our information, this Maserati MC20 Folfore should have offered very similar features to the Granturismo and Grancabrio, namely 800V architecture, 3 electric motors and a 92.5 kWh battery.

A Folgore range that struggles to convince

Sales of Maserati's other electric models, such as the Granturismo and Grancabrio Folgore, appear to have fallen short of their targets. This underperformance could explain Stellantis' strategic refocusing. The lack of clarity about the future of the MC20 Folgore reflects a broader trend: electric supercars, while promising, are struggling to find their place in a market still dominated by high-performance combustion engines.

With a production decline of 64 % in 2024 compared to 2023, the future product plan "more structured and punchy of Maserati will be decisive in determining whether this electric supercar project can be revived, or whether the brand will choose to refocus its efforts on combustion or hybrid models.

  1. dreamers, Maserati is absolutely cooked, what a disaster of a company, never seen someone auto destroy itself so hard

the people in charge should be launched and forbidden to be working in other brands ever again

thank you for destroying maserati congratulations

  3. Maserati had been living off the Ferrari legacy that had revived the brand. Since the split, nothing has gone right. Very particular clientele too. Nobody here is probably a customer, so it's hard to understand what's going on.
