The Fiat 500 hybrid will be even cheaper than expected (and will have a special edition)

The Fiat 500 hybrid is entering its final pre-sales phase. And the least we can say is that Fiat is already paying off: not only will the price be even lower than expected, but the brand has just confirmed a special edition to celebrate its return to Turin.

Mirafiori keeps its promise

On July 4, 2025, on the occasion of the brand's 126th anniversary, Fiat confirmed a great deal of information: the Fiat 500 hybrid will indeed be produced from November 2025 at the historic Mirafiori plant in Turin, a symbol of the brand's industrial heritage. After months of speculation and spyshotsthe news is now official: 5,000 units will roll off the production lines before the end of the year, before ramping up to 100,000 units a year.

An even more attractive price than expected

We were the first media to reveal that the new 500 hybrid will be priced under €20,000Today, we can confirm that the iconic city car will start at just €17,000 in Italy. An extremely aggressive positioning compared to the 100 % electric version, the 500e, which remains considerably more expensive.

With this low price, Fiat hopes to appeal to a broad public, including customers of the old 500 hybrid produced in Tychy, Poland, whose volumes reached around 180,000 units in the best years.

A 500th look, a FireFly heart

On the outside, the 500 hybrid will be almost identical to the neo-retro design of the 500e: compact proportions, soft lines, and that inimitable allure that crosses generations. The only visual clue: an opening under the front logo to cool the combustion engine.

Under the hood, Fiat confirms the adoption of the FireFly 1.0L mild-hybrid engine, a 71 hp three-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Fiat's aim is to attract customers without breaking the bank. The 500 hybrid will feature the Uconnect 5 system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as several driving aids designed for urban use: automatic emergency braking, lane keeping and sign recognition.

Three body styles will be available from launch: Berlina, 3+1 with an antagonist door for easy access to the rear, and Cabrio to enjoy the great outdoors.

The special "Torino" edition

The other surprise of the day was the official announcement of the Fiat 500 Torinoa special launch series in homage to the city of Turin and its workers. A persistent rumour since the summer of 2024 that Fiat has finally confirmed in its press release. The 500 will not be called Torino, but probably Ibrida.

  1. Superb! At this price it should be a hit! Bravo FIAT.

Frankly, at this price, it's going to hurt the Grande Panda. So yes, it's not really the same proportions or features. But I think a lot of people go for the Grande Panda or the C3 (to stay in the same group) by default, because there's no other offer for a smaller city car. For me, this 500 is much more attractive than the Grande Panda, and looks a thousand times more plush and less cheap.

Time will tell. But Fiat's sales should fare much better.

    • The Fiat 500 is not aimed at the same clientele as the Grande Panda, which is a 5-door and much more family-oriented.

      • I know, that's what I was saying. That some people turned to the Grande Panda because there were no smaller models in the Fiat range (thermal). I was talking about the C3. It's the same thing. If the C1 were to come out, C3 sales would plummet, because many buyers took it by default because there was nothing else below it.

      • I was talking about the C1, but I could also mention the 108 and Adam. Stellantis could offer Opel, Peugeot and Citroen versions of the 500. That would make it possible to offer a real small city car, and to recoup the costs of the 500 and keep Mirafiori running. What are they waiting for?

        • Well in my opinion it will be with the future small Panda on the Stla City platform of the current Fiat 500 which is planned for around 2030.
From this A base, he could bring out the Citroën C1 , the Opel Adam .

    • The "new" Fiat 5OO finally comes in a hybrid version, and at a very reasonable price. It should be a big hit.

  2. I've owned a Fiat 500 and loved it for the smooth ride, easy gear shifts light weight clutching and perfect aero dynamics on the highway.None better for easy to maneuver around city streets and curbs. Perfect balance at stop lights and quick off the mark in green lights.Just an overall pleasure to drive and own.

  4. The 70hp may limit its versatility. Some will argue that it is intended for urban use, but this is losing its relevance with the "autophobic" policies of many municipalities.

    • That's what scares me too. His low power. It's not known for being a thunderbolt. It's not shocking in a Panda/Pandina, but in a car like the 500, which claims to be chic and premium (in its segment), it just doesn't live up to its status. But let's wait and see, perhaps Fiat has a surprise in store for us.

    • With such a small engine, it's advisable to be reactive and to shift into 4th gear when climbing on fast lanes, so the manual gearbox seems essential.

  8. Along with a few classic cars my wife and I run a 2014 Fiat 500L automatic here in Menor a. Although I appreciate many do not like the electrically controlled auto my wife loves it. Ee have been waiting for a decent hybrid version to move forward, especially the rear door version. Pity there is no auto option.

  10. PLEASE make this available for North America, especially Canada where I live. There are almost no cars of any variety available with manual transmissions anymore. I own a 500e, but would happily fork out the money for a manual transmission Hybrid 500, if it were possible here. I'm certainly not the only one.

  12. Desperately needed, but why the underpowered Firefly 71hp engine?

This doesn't need to be a speed-racer, but something with more performance to avoid being slow and difficult to drive is essential. Otherwise Fiat is limiting the market potential.

But just get it on sale, it's desperately needed.
