Fiat Grande Panda: this country will get the Fiat FireFly engine instead of the Puretech

The Fiat Grande Panda, scheduled for early 2025 in Europemarks a new era for the Italian brand. This model, based on the STLA Smart platform, represents not only an important technological evolution, but also a new era for the Italian brand. a more global strategy for Fiatwhich until now has dedicated models for the European and Latin American markets. Although the the European Grande Panda hybrid will be powered by the Puretech 1.2L 100 hp enginelike all new Stellantis models, Brazilian version could feature Fiat FireFly enginea choice that will still cause teeth to cringe on the old continent.

The Puretech 1.2L engine for Europe, and Fiat for Brazil

The European version of the Fiat Grande Panda, to be launched in early 2025will be equipped with 1.2L 100 hp hybrid combustion engine, formerly known as Puretech. This engine, formerly developed by PSA, is widely used in the group's new models, including the Citroën C3, Peugeot 208, Alfa Romeo Junior, Fiat 600, and many others.

No real surprise for the Brazilian version of the Fiat Grande Panda. There, the model will be equipped with the FireFly enginean engine developed by Fiat and widely used in Brazil in the brand's models, but also in the Brazilian Citroën C3 and the Brazilian Peugeot 208. This difference in choice will once again annoy some European consumers, who would have preferred to see the European Fiat Grande Panda equipped with this engine. It would also confirm that the Fiat FireFly engine is compatible with the STLA Small platform.

According to the brazilian media quatorodas, Fiat Grande Panda prototypes arrive at Viracopos airportThe proof is in the photo taken by Marcos Pontes and published by journalist João Anacleto.

Brazil, Fiat's number 1 market

Brazil, by far Fiat's largest market in terms of sales volumeis receiving special attention in this rationalization drive. Also according to Quatrorodas, the Brazilian version of the Fiat Grande Panda could even be renamed Fiat Uno and replace two key models, the Fiat Argo and the Fiat Mobi, the latter having exceeded 600,000 units sold.

Production of the Brazilian model will continue provided by the Fiat plant in Betimin the state of Minas Gerais, a strategic plant for Fiat. This site will be responsible for manufacturing not only the internal combustion version, but also the electric version of the Fiat Grande Panda, if demand for this model is confirmed.

It is also planned that Fiat adapts the model's design for the Brazilian marketThis could give rise to a slightly different version, but still faithful to the codes of the Fiat brand.

  1. Well, it's simple: it will sell relatively well in Brazil (well, she'll still have to put up with that base designed by a 5-year-old), and in Europe it will be yet another made-in-Carlos flop.

    Are we taking bets?

  4. I'd really like to know the exact reason why the Firefly is being maintained over there, whereas over here it's being banned with each new release.
It must be a question of cost? Maybe the Puretech isn't produced locally, whereas the Firefly benefits from mass production?
Funny. It just goes to show that manufacturers can really adapt to markets. This isn't new at PSA: the 206 was also sold in South America with a Twingo 1.2 engine (D engine) for its entry-level versions, even though there was an equivalent in Europe.

    • Easily, the Firefly accepts ethanol better, which is important in Brazil. For Europe, the 1.2L emits less CO2, which is very important to avoid fines. Normally, it will be the chain-driven version, which is theoretically more reliable.

  6. I like this new Panda, I'll have to see it on wheels at the dealership to confirm. But can anyone tell me if the new FireFly engine has improved reliability, since it's installed on several makes?
Merci Thank you merci a vous et Tous!

    • You mean the Puretech because the fly is reserved for Brazil. Personally, I don't want to hear any more about this puretech engine because no one can, today, certify its reliability..... a bon entendeur Salut!

  8. The chain-driven Puretec is an engine that doesn't necessarily have to suffer from the Puretoc's reputation, because the modifications and improvements are numerous. And beyond reliability, the engine is very good and better than any 1.0l competitor (200cm3 more counts!).
The Grande Panda (a ridiculous name, reminiscent of the Grande Punto and its huge success...sic) should sell very well, as the range is very well calibrated.
