This American puts a big turbo in his Alfa Romeo Giulia and tests it on a German freeway: «it rivals the BMW M340i, Audi S4 and Mercedes-AMG C43»

When you come across a Alfa Romeo Giulia With a German license plate, filmed on the Autobahn and attacking the back roads of Baden-Württemberg, it's easy to believe that this car has been prepared by a local specialist. However, behind this prepared Giulia 2.0 turbo lies an American enthusiast who has lived in Germany for several years: the creator of Club Alfa Performance.

And his latest creation is beginning to make a name for itself among alfists. The idea? Transform a simple 280 hp Giulia 2.0 Q4 into a true sports sedan capable, according to him, of competing with BMW M340i xDrive, Audi S4 and Mercedes-AMG C43.

A Giulia with over 200,000 km on the clock

The car used for this preparation is not a new model carefully preserved in a garage. It's an Alfa Romeo Giulia with over 130,000 miles, or around 210,000 km, with original engine and gearbox. The tuner explains that he has already modified the car several times: intake, downpipe, sport exhaust, suspension, engine and gearbox reprogramming... but according to him, no change has transformed the car as much as the installation of the «Much Boost 430» hybrid turbo.

This large turbo, developed to support up to 430 hp, is associated with a specific mapping created with PW Performance. The claimed result is already impressive with simple 93-octane American fuel: between 360 and 380 engine hp depending on the configuration, or even more with ethanol. But beyond the figures, it's above all the car's behavior that seems to have surprised its owner.

«There's no turbo lag.»

In his videos, the American insists on one point: contrary to popular belief, installing a bigger turbo hasn't made the Giulia any rougher or less pleasant to drive. Quite the opposite, in fact. According to him, the car is now more responsive, smoother and more progressive than with the original turbo. He even claims that cold starts, which used to be temperamental in German winters, have become more reliable with the new configuration.

«There's no lag, no gap in the power,» he explains during a German road test. «The car feels like it has a much bigger engine.» On the fast stretches of the Autobahn, the Giulia does indeed seem to change dimension. The tuner describes an «infinite» thrust at high revs, while maintaining perfectly civilized behavior in city driving.

In “N” mode, the sedan remains discreet and comfortable. But once “D” or Race mode is activated, the tone changes immediately. The sound of the valved exhaust, violent acceleration, muscular acceleration: the Giulia 2.0 becomes a true sports car.

Giulia Quadrifoglio-like performance?

The figure that comes up most often in the video is the 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 4.22 seconds. For its owner, this puts this Alfa Romeo Giulia «side by side with a BMW M340i xDrive, an Audi S4 or a Mercedes-AMG C43».

He goes even further, claiming that it's not far off an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio in terms of pure acceleration. Perhaps most interesting of all is the positioning of this preparation. In his opinion, Alfa Romeo should have offered an intermediate model between the 280 hp Giulia 2.0 and the radical Quadrifoglio. This turbo-prepared Giulia would represent just such a “missing link”. (EDITOR'S NOTE: Alfa Romeo had planned an Alfa Romeo Giulia 340 bhp at the start of the car's career).

An Alfa Romeo designed to go... everywhere

What makes this story even more special is the Giulia's track record. On social networks, the owner explains that the car has already been driven in the USA, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and Monaco. A detail that explains why his videos mix American car culture with European surroundings: language in miles, prices in dollars, but German roads with no limits and local plates.

Club Alfa Performance has since announced its definitive return to the United States after several years in Stuttgart. The tuner explains that it intends to continue developing new products around Alfa Romeo models from New York, and also to visit Canada. This Alfa Romeo Giulia proves once again that the Giorgio platform has enormous potential, even in its four-cylinder version.
