This Alfa Romeo 55-SGT, with its V6 engine tuned to 620 ch, stole the show from Ferrari and Lamborghini at the Milano Monza Motor Show

At the MIMO Milano Monza Motor Show, there was no shortage of supercars. Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Dallara, Porsche, handcrafted hypercars, new electric models, and exceptional vehicles all gathered at the stands and on the track at this temple of speed. Yet this weekend, one of the most photographed cars bore neither a prancing horse nor a bull. It sported a Biscione… well, almost!

The Alfa Romeo 55-SGT, created by SGT Automobili, made its first public appearance at Monza and, even among such an exceptional lineup, quickly became the center of attention.

A world premiere at the heart of MIMO

The show’s organizers had made no secret of their ambitions. The 55-SGT topped the official program for Friday, June 26, with a world premiere held at the circuit’s stands. A few hours later, it led the MIMO’s inaugural parade in front of journalists, guests, and visitors.

It’s a powerful image. As Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Giamaro Krafla, and other hypercars paraded around the Monza circuit, it was this striking white Alfa Romeo that led the procession. And you only have to look at the photos from the paddock to understand why.

A 155 DTM Brought Back to Life

The 55-SGT is not just a modified version based on a Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. SGT Automobili has completely redesigned the car to pay tribute to the legendary Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti DTM, which dominated the German championship in 1993.

At Monza, the family resemblance is immediately apparent. The very vertical front end, rectangular headlights, flared fenders, white wheels, and massive rear wing instantly bring to mind the touring cars of the 1990s. The carbon-fiber body completely transforms the Giulia’s silhouette. From the front, some visitors even had trouble recognizing the modern Italian sedan hidden beneath this neo-retro body.

In the MIMO pits, spectators crowded around the car, smartphones in hand. On the pit lane, it drew more attention than several supercars that were, in fact, much more powerful or exclusive.

The Alfa Romeo That Stirs Nostalgia

This success can undoubtedly be attributed to what the 55-SGT represents. It doesn’t just celebrate a legendary race car; it also evokes an era when Alfa Romeo won championships, competed against Mercedes and Audi, and thrilled audiences at European racetracks.

Under the hood, the 55-SGT retains the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 from the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, but SGT Automobili didn’t stop at simply carrying over the original powertrain. Three power levels are available: 520 ch, 560 ch, and up to 620 ch in its most extreme configuration, with future upgrades already mentioned that could reach 750 ch. To recapture the spirit of the 155 V6 Ti DTM, the 55-SGT features a fully configurable all-wheel-drive system. The driver can adjust the torque distribution between the axles, prioritize the rear at 80:20, or even select a 100:0 rear-wheel-drive mode. A torque vectoring system, independently adjustable shock absorbers, and multiple engine maps transform the car into a true competition machine approved for the road.

A great deal of work has also gone into the aerodynamics. Engineers claim up to 300 kg of downforce at high speeds thanks to active components controlled from the cockpit. The imposing rear wing, incidentally, is not merely a stylistic choice: it faithfully replicates that of the 155 DTM, adapted to the Giulia’s more generous dimensions.

Produced in a limited run of just 10 «Opening Edition» models, followed by 55 additional cars, the 55-SGT is priced at around 450,000 to 500,000 euros, depending on the customizations. A price tag that places it firmly in the realm of classic cars even before the first deliveries. And on Italy’s most iconic racetrack, ahead of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and much more powerful hypercars, this is perhaps the greatest compliment an Alfa Romeo could receive: to once again, for the duration of a weekend, become the car everyone was talking about.
