Alfa Romeo: 2023 sales figures for France

Here we are at last in 2024, happy new year to all! And now to get down to business, here are the brand's sales and, more specifically, registrations figures Alfa Romeo in 2023 for France. After a low point in 2022, 2023 is showing positive signs, mainly thanks to the Tonale...

Drum roll, Alfa Romeo registered 3909 cars in France in 20233090 in 2022. Even though this is a increase of 26 %It's not much, very little. But that's to be expected since in our last surveyAlfa Romeo had 2851 registrations in September 2023, so that's just over 1000 cars in the last quarter.

The Tonale has a lot to do with itAlthough we don't yet have details by model, it represented 2,368 sales from January to September 2023, or 83 % of sales. In other words, without this compact SUV, despite a slight restyling of the Giulia and Stelvio, the brand would sell fewer cars than Ferrari...

France is Alfa Romeo's 4th largest marketfar behind Italy, the USA and slightly behind Germany. The Tonale alone will not be able to drive sales in the medium term, as the The B-SUV Milano is the most eagerly-awaited model for building volume..

The year 2024 will be a special one for Alfa Romeo, as the Milano will not be presented until April 2024, so we can imagine orders opening between April and June 2024 and the first deliveries in September 2024... The Tonale will have to carry sales alone for another year.

  1. 3909 cars registered in France in 2023, the 4th largest market for the brand! 🇫🇷🙄😒
    It's not heavy!
It's not certain that the future Milano Opel 2008 will make the meters explode! 😭

    • There are several bad reasons for these modest sales of 3909 cars: buyers now only want SUVs and are abandoning sedans. And they're heading for the Germans, because the consumer is reassured when he buys German. Moreover, the French malus discourages the purchase of Giulias and Stelvios. Highly-malus cars have become virtually unmarketable, unless you're an enthusiast for whom the price, including the malus, is not a deterrent.

      • Frankly, what a pity for this mithy brand, I sincerely believe that it is losing its soul with this collaboration between Stelantis and PSA.

  2. I love Alfa, I own a 2017 Giulia but the , the electric Alfa 100% from 2027 makes me laugh. An SUV to save Alfa, what a jokeMarque is dead. She's got the wrong target

  3. 4000 sales over the year is not a lot. Alfa Romeo is losing its soul, and the mistakes are multiplying. The Giulia has been stripped of several engines (2L 200hp and 150hp diesel) and without a V6 between the 280hp and the 520hp V6. And it's still expensive, too bad!

    • The Giulia is no more expensive than the competition, just like the Stelvio. But with the malus, the total price becomes high. As a result, most sales are made with diesel models, which have a low deductible. What's missing are PHEV models, which would escape the penalty.

  4. Hello, happy new year to all
Yes, it doesn't look heavy, but that's to be expected given how little you see on the streets and how little the brand advertises. I don't really believe in the Milano either, as long as they're going to make a restyled psa.

  5. It's sad to see such a beautiful brand in decline !!!! Because let's be honest, Alfa sold more than 16000 cars in 2011.... and 3000 in 2022 !!!!
I've always loved this brand, its inimitable style, its petrol engines, its philosophy.... Today, Alfa has fallen into line with these soulless shoeboxes, sorry, soulless suvs....
It's a pity Alfa isn't jumping on the electric bandwagon, because an electric Alfa sedan would look great...

    • Yes, it is. The future Alfa range will be electric. But given the brand's prestigious history, an electric Alfa Romeo will only be an ersatz.
Nothing to do with Giulia sedans, Bertone coupes and other GTVs!

  6. For me, unfortunately, I'm not one of the immat... The alfa romeo segment doesn't target me anymore... Too bad. I'm an alfatista at heart and especially when it comes to second-hand cars. It's a pity that Stellantis put Alfa in the premium segment...

  7. It's a pity that bad-faith detractors influence readers of the automotive press in this way. 2 "faults" highlighted on the Giulia in 2016:
    - inconvenient turn signal control
    - the squeal of front tires when maneuvering.
I own the Giulia, and these 2 "shortcomings" prove to be inaccurate!
The Giulia has nothing to envy the competition! The Giulia is a great car.

  8. Owner of a sylvio Q4 veloce, it will unfortunately be the last alfa, unfortunately there is nothing more of an Italian is Peugeot makeup, engine crap, plastic poor quantity.

  9. Hello,
we're talking about SUVs and the Giulia, a highly successful car with top-of-the-range performance!
However, I think that what the brand sorely needs is one or two models in the city car genre!
Because the only Alfa we see on the streets is the Mito and Giulietta!
More accessible, attractive and reliable, they still appeal, even to those who aren't brand fans...
Why focus only on SUVs? Let's take the opportunity to change fashion, let's be crazy... and let's think about small budgets, because there are a lot of them...

  10. Defects of your tonale....plug-in bad solution you have to charge every day + also fill up with petrol! Consumption too high...small 1.5-liter engine + turbo + variable geometry delicate and too expensive! Your concept car is too heavy!
Take a look for inspiration and, above all, try it out...Honda CIVIC HYBRIDE e : HEV
Summary: Lighter by : 150 kg! 2-liter Aktinson-cycle engine....is not connected to the wheels, but only to charge a small battery better hybrid solution than your system...
Consumption: two to three liters less than your tonale! And it costs 15,000 francs less than your Alfa tonale!

  11. Dear French friends, what are you waiting for to "revolt" against these "Malus" ...what a swindle just like these radars!!!!
Alfa is also my favorite brand....but if it's all about electrics and more diesel/petrol, well, that's it.
And be careful, because with only electric power.....alfa will go bankrupt a 3rd time!

  12. The comments come from people who do not know Alfa, I have a Stelvio bought used and 130 mkms. From every point of view, comfort, reliability and performance are a pleasure.
Leave the German uniform pros to their world of exorbitant maintenance costs.
Frankly, I prefer the suit to the uniform.
    Have a good trip.

  13. An inveterate Alfista (14 from the first, an Alfasud TI from 1979, to the last, a Giulia Veloce petrol Q2 from 2022), I'm delighted that Alfa is "making money", as JF Imparato has been saying consistently for over a year. But I'm a bit skeptical: how can the brand be profitable with so few sales? Perhaps - and even then? - if we only take direct costs into account, leaving aside plant and equipment depreciation (shared with other Stellantis brands), R&D costs, head office expenses, if we don't charge all variable costs, etc. But it seems to me extravagant to take such an approach. But it seems to me extravagant that Alfa as a stand-alone brand could be profitable.

    • I'm skeptical too, the Giorgio platform alone cost 1 billion, what a waste!
jf Imparato promises a lot, but it's all just promises

  14. Hello
Alfa is Alfa. It's a pleasure to drive.
The malus policy is always surprising and inappropriate.
The advertising done by the pro journalists (??) for our French cars and more for the German ones is unbearable. On the other hand, for after-sales service and maintenance.... motus !!!!
After all, everyone drives the way they want, but driving a car you don't see very often is much nicer.

  15. Customers fall into 3 categories:
    - 50% want to show off -> German
    - 40% want a utility -> French / German / Asian
    - 10% want a fun car that's practical and stylish
Alfa is in the last category, but only offers products in the other 2.
Great strategists must have a strabismus.

  16. Frankly, what a pity for this mithy brand, I sincerely believe that it is losing its soul with this collaboration between Stelantis and PSA.

  17. They would have done better to sell this brand to VV, Marchionne has let this iconic brand die, Alfa enthusiasts aren't going to buy over-the-top suvs, ex-psa rebadged Alfa, no for me it's the end, it lacks coupes, cabs, exceptional cars like before.

    • Marchionne deserves credit for bringing out the Giulia and Stelvio, and if he hasn't replaced the Giulietta and created a fairly complete range, it's not like Imparato, who's taking orders from Tavares to make SUVs derived from Peugeots.
When VW sells a Lamborghini, they find a way to incorporate Audi elements. I don't think the VW derivatives in Audi, Seat, and Skoda are an example to follow.

  18. We've been reading lately that even the electric ayatollahs of the VAG group are putting the brakes on, and Stellantis is forcing Alfa to go all-electric in 3 years' time, which I find so ridiculous. In my opinion, this is a serious mistake, especially for a brand like Alfa, whose image is sport. A 1000hp electric car isn't going to affirm that image. Potential Alfa customers still want combustion engines.

    • VAG is far from being a reference in the field of electric vehicles, which just goes to show that they haven't been able to adapt, but it doesn't say where the market is heading.

  19. I agree, this move to all-electric is nonsense. Alfa Romeo can disappear with Stellantis, at least for a while, and hopefully be reborn one day.
The more things go, the more Stellantis appears to be dissolving FCA's brands, and a declination of Peugeot's products. Just look at the future Lancia Ypsilon, which doesn't even hide the fact that it will be a 208, just a little more luxurious. And the Alfa Romeo Junior makes no secret of its 2008 genes.

  20. We all agree on the electric: the death of mechanical passion.

Objectively speaking, however, if Alfa doesn't switch to the electric 100%, it's doomed. Who's going to buy a car that costs more than €60,000? Already, Alfa is having trouble selling its cars...

SUVs suck? yes, for enthusiasts. But the 60-year-old buyer who goes to the dealership (that's the average age of the new car buyer) wants something with big, tall wheels.

What should be done? It's hard to say. Lower prices for starters. Extend its range. But between the Chinese and the Americans, it's not easy...

    • And who can predict that everyone will go electric? As much as I'm in favor of electric city cars like the Fiat 500e, I don't believe it for a second when it comes to road cars. At the very least, the PHEV step is indispensable, and avoids the malus.
An Alfa Romeo buyer won't be satisfied with silence and power, but with a lack of character.
The failures of many brands in the electric sector mean that this technology is already outdated and reserved for a limited clientele.
Alfa Romeo cars are not too expensive, excluding the malus. They're no more expensive than their German rivals. What screws things up is the malus in France, and the lack of hybrid engines (apart from the Tonale).
