An engine that might have interested Alfa Romeo

The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, as well as the Maserati Ghibli, Levante, and Grecale, have all used the GME four-cylinder engine developed during the FCA era. More recently, the GME T4 Evo—currently available only in the United States—has also features technologies developed by Maserati.
And above that is the famous 3.0-liter Hurricane, an inline-six that belongs to this same engine family. For a long time, it was easy to imagine this engine under the hood of future Alfa Romeo models based on the STLA Large platform. In an alternate automotive universe, a Giulia, a Stelvio, or even a new GTV equipped with this six-cylinder engine wouldn’t have been entirely far-fetched. But while the roadmaps for Alfa Romeo and Maserati remain uncertain in Europe, in the United States, Stellantis is indeed putting this combination to use in the new Dodge Charger.
From 550 to nearly 1,000 hp
The Charger Sixpack Scat Pack comes standard with the Hurricane High Output engine producing 550 hp, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Dodge has even just unveiled a Super Bee variant. increased to 600 hp.

After defeating Demi Bagby in the first round and then Rob Dahm in the semifinals, he beat Bryan Kiefer in the final. It was a bit of personal redemption: in 2025, O’Malley had entered a Dodge Viper whose V10 had been replaced by… a six-cylinder Hurricane engine. He was eliminated in the first round by Morgan Evans. Ironically, it was Morgan Evans who caught our attention last May by installing that same engine in an old Dodge Ram pickup truck. With a large turbocharger and stock internal components, it produced about 800 hp.
Three months later, the benchmark has now surpassed 900 hp and is approaching 1,000 hp. It certainly makes you wonder what this six-cylinder engine might have been capable of under the hood of an Alfa Romeo.
