Yes, we're talking about the GME 6-cylinder engine from Stellantis. But it's hard to do otherwise, given that this engine continues to demonstrate quite spectacular potential. After achieving some 800 hp a few months ago by Morgan Evans, a new engine is now approaching the symbolic 1,000 hp mark. And this time, it’s under the hood of an all-new Dodge Charger.
An engine that might have interested Alfa Romeo
Why are we paying such close attention to this American engine on Italpassion? Because its history is closely tied to that of Stellantis’ Italian brands. The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, as well as the Maserati Ghibli, Levante, and Grecale, have all used the GME four-cylinder engine developed during the FCA era. More recently, the GME T4 Evo—currently available only in the United States—has also features technologies developed by Maserati.

And above that is the famous 3.0-liter Hurricane, an inline-six that belongs to this same engine family. For a long time, it was easy to imagine this engine under the hood of future Alfa Romeo models based on the STLA Large platform. In an alternate automotive universe, a Giulia, a Stelvio, or even a new GTV equipped with this six-cylinder engine wouldn’t have been entirely far-fetched. But while the roadmaps for Alfa Romeo and Maserati remain uncertain in Europe, in the United States, Stellantis is indeed putting this combination to use in the new Dodge Charger.

From 550 to nearly 1,000 hp
The Charger Sixpack Scat Pack comes standard with the Hurricane High Output engine producing 550 hp, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Dodge has even just unveiled a Super Bee variant. increased to 600 hp.

But to gauge the engine's true potential, you have to look to John O’Malley and Boosted Motorsports. To participate in the Direct Connection Influencer Grudge Match At the «Roadkill Nights 2026» event, O’Malley completely transformed his Dodge Charger. The two stock turbochargers have been replaced by a single HPT 7172, paired with a massive air-to-air intercooler and a MoTeC engine management system.

Result: While his previous Hurricane build produced about 850 hp, his 2026 Charger is now expected to produce close to 1,000 hp. The Detroit News For its part, it boasts power output exceeding 900 hp. This performance is all the more impressive given that the car retains its all-wheel-drive system. However, the ZF 8HP transmission has been modified by Pure Drivetrain Solutions and equipped with a Turbolamik controller to handle and harness this power, which is considerably greater than the stock output.
And he wins with it!
This Charger isn't just a show car for the dyno. More importantly, John O’Malley has just won the Roadkill Nights 2026 on Woodward Avenue.
After defeating Demi Bagby in the first round and then Rob Dahm in the semifinals, he beat Bryan Kiefer in the final. It was a bit of personal redemption: in 2025, O’Malley had entered a Dodge Viper whose V10 had been replaced by… a six-cylinder Hurricane engine. He was eliminated in the first round by Morgan Evans. Ironically, it was Morgan Evans who caught our attention last May by installing that same engine in an old Dodge Ram pickup truck. With a large turbocharger and stock internal components, it produced about 800 hp.
Three months later, the benchmark has now surpassed 900 hp and is approaching 1,000 hp. It certainly makes you wonder what this six-cylinder engine might have been capable of under the hood of an Alfa Romeo. Come on, Stellantis—develop a good hybrid system, pair it with this engine, and install the whole package in the top-of-the-line Lancia, DS, and Alfa Romeo models…

When there's a V8, there's not much to say—stop praising the V6s. All of you who talk about them are either in the pocket of someone or lack any real technical knowledge.
So, with all your technical knowledge, why would anyone choose a 5.7 Hemi that produces 155 hp less and weighs 200 pounds more? Not to mention that inline-6 engines are naturally balanced—a far cry from the V8 Hemi, which has several active dampers to absorb engine and chassis vibrations. They’re easier to work on and take up less space in the engine bay, leaving more room for performance upgrades.
Simple. It’s a V8. It sounds amazing compared to the 3.0L. Don’t get me wrong, straight-6s are great, but they’re no V8.
Put it in the Pacifica
I am a retired Chrysler employee.
If the company plans to continue manufacturing products right here in the U.S.
By all means, use the UA.W. We have built this company, and we deserve this opportunity.
I think your wish, like so many others, will never come true.
In Europe, we'll have to make do with a simple 4-cylinder engine—and even then, Stellantis is quite capable of forcing a dismal 3-cylinder engine on us.
How do I go about arranging for your garage professional to come pick up my car?.
Two fewer cylinders, but two turbos!!!! Nobody needs 1,000 horsepower; people need reliability and low maintenance costs.
Absolutely!
