Maserati: Stellantis' official 2024 figures are even worse than our estimates

Official figures for Maserati for the year 2024, published by Stellantis, are without appeal and far exceed the worst-case scenarios we could have imagined. The brand with the Trident is going through a crisis of unprecedented proportions, with production cutbacks and sales plummeting at a dizzying pace. By 2024, Maserati will have sold barely more vehicles than Lamborghini and, according to our estimates, probably fewer than Ferrari. Q4 2024 is even the worst quarter since 2012, a global plunge in production and sales in key markets.

  • At Mirafiori, Maserati's historic plant, production fell by 74 %from 8,680 units in 2023 to just 2,250 in 2024. A collapse that no prestige brand could ignore.
  • In Modena, production of the MC20 fell by 79 %from 1,244 units in 2023 to a mere 260 in 2024.
  • At Cassino, which also produces Grecale, the decline is a little less dramatic, but still significant, with a drop of 58 %from 17,242 to 7,250 units.

In 2024, Maserati's overall production fell by 64 %from 27,166 units in 2023 to 9,760 in 2024. A reduction of more than 17,000 cars.

An unprecedented fourth quarter 2024

To cap it all, Maserati closed 2024 with its worst fourth quarter since 2012. With only 2,700 cars sales between October and December, over the same period the brand posted a decline of 55 % compared with the previous year, when 6,000 units were sold. This figure is even lower than that for 2020, a year marked by the pandemic. Usually, the 4th quarter is one of the best of the year...

The 2024 sales figures are, unsurprisingly, not very good, and even worse than our estimates. In 2024, Maserati recorded an overall drop in sales of 57 %a massive decline that has affected even its strongest traditional markets, such as America and Italy.

  • The United States : The American market, historically favourable to Maserati, saw its sales fall by 37 %with just 4,819 units sold in 2024. Although the figure is higher than Lamborghini's, it marks a clear decline on previous years.
  • Italy Maserati's historic market, Italy, saw sales plummet by 42 %with just 2,242 units sold in 2024. The loss of interest in Maserati's traditional models, coupled with higher prices and a reduced range, explains this slump.

With 11,300 cars sold in 2024, Maserati is now below Ferrari's performance, and Lamborghini is approaching it. 2. Models designed in design offices by engineers who still think they're gods in their outlook on life don't appeal to the disingenuous. The Alfreiry model was perfect in its looks and affordable in its price. Maserati mistakenly didn't market it. The brand should listen to its customers' grievances.
