With just a few weeks to go before the presentation of the new strategic plan for Maserati, Antonio Filosa has just made some particularly strong statements. When interviewed at the Paris Motor Show, the CEO of Stellantis acknowledged that the future of the Trident brand now hinges on the decisions to be made in the near future. After several years of difficulties, Maserati simply can't afford to make any more mistakes.
«We have no other choice»
This is likely one of Antonio Filosa’s most significant statements regarding Maserati since he took the helm at Stellantis. Speaking to the press, the executive made no attempt to downplay the situation. «We can no longer afford to make mistakes; we have no other choice. It’s not a matter of postponing decisions, but of taking all the time necessary to do things right.».
The event is scheduled for December 2026 in Modena, where Stellantis will finally present its strategic plan for Maserati. «I hope that in Modena, in December, we’ll be able to win them over,» added Antonio Filosa. A statement that speaks volumes about the importance of this presentation. Because behind the stated ambitions, Maserati has yet to prove that it has a genuine industrial and commercial future.
Factories Desperately Awaiting New Models
Antonio Filosa also acknowledged a particularly troubling reality: the Italian plants in Modena and Cassino are operating well below capacity. The reason is simple: «There is currently a shortage of products,» the executive explained. In Cassino, in particular, the site’s future will depend largely on decisions regarding Maserati. For employees, who experienced a significant slowdown in activity in 2026, the December plan therefore represents much more than just a strategic presentation.
This situation reflects the manufacturer's business challenges. According to figures compiled by Italpassion, Maserati registrations fell by 37 in the third quarter in the first half of 2026 in the main markets surveyed, with only 2,737 cars registered. Even the United States, the brand's largest market, is experiencing a sharp decline.

A rescue plan, some aspects of which are already taking shape
Although Antonio Filosa has not revealed any details of the future plan, several reports published in recent months offer a glimpse into the scenarios being considered. As we mentioned in September, Maserati is reportedly in advanced discussions with Huawei and JAC Motors. This partnership could result in two electric models—a large GT and an SUV—with production that could be shared between China and Italy. On the other hand, according to our latest information, the possibility of a partnership with BMW is now said to have been all but abandoned, mainly because the costs are considered too high.
At the same time, Maserati is working on updates to its existing models. In particular, the Grecale is expected to receive new hybrid powertrains in 2027, while the engineers do not rule out the return of a V8, subject to a favorable decision by Stellantis. All of these options will need to be incorporated into a coherent—and, above all, financially viable—strategy.

December: The Last Chance?
Maserati is no longer necessarily seeking to return to the sales volumes of its past. The brand now prioritizes exclusivity, customization, and profitability. But it still needs new models capable of appealing to customers. Antonio Filosa’s statements show that Stellantis now recognizes the urgency of the situation. The plan to be unveiled in December will need to provide concrete answers regarding future models, investments, and the future of the Italian plants. After years of promises and delays, Maserati has reached a decisive moment in its history. And this time, its own CEO acknowledges it: there may not be a second chance.
