Maserati reacts and unveils its new official 2028 product plan

A few days ago, we shared with you an article from the heartafter discovering from documents we were able to consult that there would only be two new models between now and 2028, and that the product plan would therefore be delayed.

The Italian brand Maserati has just responded with a press release confirming what we suspected:

  • An electric MC20 100 % for 2025
  • An electric E-SUV (Levante) 100 % for 2027
  • An electric Quattroporte 100 % for 2028

This confirms a slight delay of 2 to 3 years in relation to the initial plan.

So, by 2027, the brand's range will include an MC20 and MC20 Cielo (whose unions are warning of a drop in orders in 2024), a Grecale in thermic and Folgore, and the Granturismo and Grancabrio in thermic and Folgore.

The press release also announces "2024 is a crucial year for the company's evolution and growth, particularly in the context of the challenges and changes facing luxury brands in the global automotive sector." And yet, Ferrari and Lamborghini are doing rather well...

"Driven by our heart in Modena, we're going all-in on electrification, with two of our iconic models already available to buy in their 100 % electric versions, and another on the way this year. We'll be offering our favorite customers the most powerful Maseratis ever conceived, pushing the boundaries of driving pleasure into a new era. With our long-term vision and strategic plan, we want to mark the world of luxury with unique Italian manufacturing excellence, constantly pushing distinctive quality and building our future with a dedicated business model that guarantees our customers the best products that reflect Trident values."

Davide Grasso, Maserati CEO

Maserati's strategy is clear: less volume, electric 100 %.with the aim of capturing a new clientele who buy luxury electric cars. We'll be keeping a close eye on sales of Folgore models, as these are the brand's new performance indicators.

The Italian brand also confirms its commitment to Formula E, and there's still the Maserati MC20 GT2, as a customer team, which should make a full championship this year.

  1. But what is Maserati doing in FE? Isn't it time to show the brand in HyperCar or LMDH with an MC20 as a flagship???
When will they understand that other brands are successful with hybrids and not just "all-electric"?
Incomprehensible. The Grecale is magnificent, but it's not a luxury product, it's a premium product (Lancia's is okay, like the Ghibli, but not Maserati's). And still no Alfieri that could run in GT3 and GT2?

      • Do you really think this will work? When all the other luxury brands like Aston Martin are aiming for hybrids. Lamborghini and Ferrari too?

        • I personally don't know any Maserati customers who are ready to switch to electric. All of them bought a Maserati for its design and engine. It remains to be seen when the demonstration models arrive in the showroom whether this will change their minds.

          • Those I know are expecting more of a hybrid of the Nettuno. Many expect the same from Alfa, with a Montreal Hybrid coupe announced by Tavares a year ago on the radio.

  2. A chimera, this electric fairy !!!
But it will make Maserati and the European automobile disappear through the sheer will of environmentalist bobos...

  3. It makes you wonder if this big delay is due to a change of platform, a return to the Giorgio 1.5 to continue offering thermals? I imagine that the Emirates and a good proportion of American customers will appreciate the melody of a very cavernous thermal.

    • That's why the presentation of the electric Dodge received a cold reception from customers. All the Sport and Luxury brides are still hybrids, but Alfa and Maserati are going all-electric... they're totally out of step with demand.

  4. continued from previous message: because in the end, where Maserati still has a card to play is in its design and its engine singing... cars for aesthetes, lovers of the old world, the one that vibrates?

    • ... where 1 in 40 Europeans dies from pollution, including 1 in 4 from diesel? (well, living in the Cantal region of France doesn't inflate the statistics, so special thanks to those who live near the Paris ring road).
Sources: google (europe mortalite pollution) (number of deaths in Europe) (cantal pollution)
PS: for contradictory answers, please quote your sources

  5. We have to stop believing that brands in turnaround are trying to please their former customers,
If brand loyalists were enough, they wouldn't be where they are today.

    Same thing for Alfa

So if you like thermals (like me), keep your babies.

    • The problem is that Maserati lost customers after leaving the Ferrari fold, so it might be time to win them back. The Alfieri would have been welcome

  6. An electric 100% when 99;99% of Maserati customers, or at least what's left of them, only buy Maserati for its internal combustion engines and design! Laugh-out-loud funny.
