Maserati MCXtrema 740 hp: we know the date!

As you read this title, you may be at a loss! Of course not! There's already the Maserati MC20, then the brand presented the Project24 and, more recently, the Maserati MC20 GT2. There's a lot to be confused about here, as Maserati's communication has not been very clear: many people thought that the MC20 GT2 was Project24. Not at all: the Project24 is the MCXtrema!

Do you follow? We don't either, it's only people who imagine communication at Maserati who have a lot of fun launching new names. The worst thing is that nobody understands it, and nobody in press relations takes the time to explain it. Maybe they don't understand it either...

In any case, it's now clear that Project24, which is a MC20, whose V6 has been upgraded to 740 hp and whose weight has been reduced to 1,250 kg, is now called MCXtrema..

We also know the date of the presentation: on August 18th! And yes, it's still a good idea to present this new model while everyone's on vacation.

According to our information, this Maserati MCXtrema has already been sold at a price of €900,000, in about 50 examples... unless it's the GT2...

  1. Hello Alexandre
No, project24 has always been announced as such (as you wrote in a previous article), but project24 has always been the internal code and we now know the official name of the Extreme versions at Maserati with a sale and rental of personnel to go on circuits (gentleman driver) as at Ferrari (a good point)!πŸ‘

The GT2 was announced a long time in advance, but only recently released (on schedule). It's the GT4 and GT3 versions that are currently the big stories.

    • Hello Ced

I'm glad you were able to keep up, because the people I talked to about it, even the pros, were just as confused as I was. Even Maserati's RP didn't take me back, and those from other brands didn't hesitate to clarify certain points. I'm deliberately teasing Maserati, which is always so messy when it comes to communication, cf. the power of the Folgore Granturismo ^^.

  2. Ah, they're clearly as messy as they were under FCA, because we were supposed to have a GT3 or GT4 version in the first place and we got a... GT2 version.

I'm afraid that the GT2 version of the MC20 isn't suitable for all races (too bad) and they should adapt it to synthetic fuel as soon as possible to run it in endurance races.

LenTeam FE (which is floundering, by the way) is not indispensable for the moment, and the power ratings announced for electrics are not respected on production models.
We'll have to come up with another name for the electric versions (XTREM-E, for example).
