Stellantis will have to wait until February 15, 2024 to reveal the figures for Maseratithe Italian FIM-CISL union did not have to wait tor unveil all 2023 production figures. Against a backdrop of concern, there's some good, and some not so good.

Remember that Maseratis are produced in three factories. The Mirafiori in Turin produces the Granturismo, Levante, Ghibli, Quattroporte and the future Grancabrio. The plant in Cassino produces the Maserati Grecale, alongside the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia. And finally, the Modena produces the Maserati MC20. Here are the figures provided by the union.

First the Mirafiori plant which is in a state of flux. It has taken over production of the Ghibli and Quattroporte in 2022, two models at the end of their life cycle, and of the new Granturismo, in both combustion and folgore versions. Production has also begun on the Grancabrio thermo and folgore, for which orders should open shortly. The Italian syndicate therefore unveils 8,680 units produced in 2023, down 49 % on 2022.

On a positive note, the new Granturismo and Grancabrio account for 2,790 of the 8,680 units. We can therefore attribute the factory's drop in production to the Levante, Ghibli and Quattroporte trio, whose succession is sorely awaited.

Another interesting point is that, while many sources agree that the electric Quattroporte project, aka M9S, has been put on hold, the union expects this model to be in production by 2025. He even wants the production schedule for this model to be brought forward. " We have been informed that the timing is being redefined to maximize the impact on the market. "It smells like a tug-of-war between Stellantis management and the union...

Heading for the Modena plant. If we were wondering how many Maserati MC20s are sold each year, we now have the answer. The syndicate reveals that 1244 MC20s were produced in 2023, a score that would be similar to 2022, and the same volume is expected for 2024. The Maserati GT2 is also produced here. In our opinion, it's a great success, and perhaps the brand should concentrate on developing other supercars...

Finally, open the doors of the Cassino factory. As a reminder, it produces the Grecale as well as its close cousins, the Giulia and Stelvio. Production of the Grecale represents more than a third of production, with 17,242 models, which is a good score, with an increase of 27 % compared to 2022. The union notes that, on the other hand, the two Alfa Romeos show a drop of -24 % ... but that's another subject!

In the end, MC20 and Grecale both achieve very good scores. The situation is more mixed for the Granturismo and Grancabrio, but let's wait and see what orders are placed for the Folgore models. The Mirafiori plant is certainly eagerly awaiting the Levante's replacement to boost its volume. As for the future electric Quattroporte, its future probably depends on orders for the new Folgore models. Note that the MC20 Folgore is also normally scheduled for 2025, but here too, we've heard little more about it.

All in all, Maserati will have produced just over 27,000 cars in its 3 factoriesa slight improvement on previous years. Let's wait until mid-February to see if Stellantis confirms these figures.

  1. Total sales for 2023 are 27166 cars sold. That's not bad, apart from the French market where figures are very low (50,000€ malus and now 60,000€).

    • Yes, it's not so bad: with a range renewed more rapidly, like a sedan, a larger suv and a two-seater coupé, it's in the game. Please note that these are cars produced, not necessarily sold. For example, there's already a Grancabrio in production, but it's still not available to order. The difficulty is to distinguish between production, order and registration.

  2. It's true that you have to distinguish between cars produced and those ordered, but Maseratis aren't city cars that you stock on parking lots or in showrooms. I don't think there are many Maseratis in stock, especially as customers like highly personalized cars with options.

  3. I agree with you, we need to think globally about production, as the French market is sluggish, moribund and non-existent. A true Cuban model....still without embargo..... The shame....

  4. Can you imagine Maserati without the Quattroporte, after all, it's the iconic model in the range... For me, that would be the good news 😉 The MC20 looks like a very good car; perhaps its sales volume will depend on its success in competition. The MC12 played a big part in restoring the trident's sporting dimension and confidence in the brand (thanks Ferrari, by the way). As for the Grecale, it's up against tough competition and, like the Levante, lacks that little something extra that would establish its supremacy. In short, a new "Shamal" effect would be welcome, something brutal that gets people talking and stimulates passions 😉
