This Italian supercar has 3 keys to unlock 3 levels of power from its 7L V12 quadri-turbo engine... the third exceeds 2,000 hp

Giamaro is a new supercar manufacturer, which last year unveiled its first model, the Krafla, named after an Icelandic volcano. Founded by an entrepreneur by the name of Commendatore, the Krafla made its European debut at the 21st edition of the Top Marques show in Monaco, in a brand-new “GC” livery.

Aesthetics: power and light

The new GC livery blends Azzurro Giamaro, Bianco Infinito and Grigio Cenere, enhanced by visible carbon-fiber elements. This chromatic research was designed to underline the vehicle's aerodynamic lines and “indomitable” power, creating a visual balance between technical elegance and sporting aggression.

Innovations include the use of hand-finished leather in satin-finish Azzurro Giamaro, an exclusive feature which, combined with details in Bianco Infinito and Grigio Cenere, adds luminosity and a feeling of space to the interior. The design combines the warmth of handcrafted materials with the technical rigor of machined aluminum and exposed carbon fiber.

The design is in line with current supercar design codes. While the front avoids overkill, particularly in the design of the lights, the rear is reminiscent of the Evija. The digital display on the instrument panel is colorful. Interior design in the futuristic vein. The infotainment system is simple and sober, because the experience is elsewhere, of course. Some may object to the visible screws...

Technical specifications are equally impressive: a 7-speed manual gearbox with mechanical limited-slip differential or an 11-speed sequential gearbox with electro-actuated dual clutch, based on a Giamaro patent “under development” according to the brand. Braking is via 4 carboceramic discs (front 420 x 40 mm, 10-piston calipers; rear 410 x 34 mm, 4-piston calipers). Electronically-adjustable shock absorbers with anti-roll bar.

A very special V12

The heart of the beast is, of course, the quadri-turbo V12 engine developed by Italtecnica, a well-known Italian specialist which, among other things, developed the engine for the Totem GT and the Kimera EVO37. The specs are breathtaking: 6,988 cm³ displacement, dry sump lubrication, cascade gearing (no belts or chains). The forged pistons are made of aluminum alloy and feature an anti-friction coating and an anti-knock coating with aluminum oxide deposits on the head, for maximum strength and reliability.

As Italtecnica explains on its website, the vehicle's space constraints determined the engine's most unusual feature: its V-shaped angle, set at 120°. This configuration, combined with a «hot V» layout (with exhausts and turbochargers inside the V), made it possible to compactly integrate four turbochargers of the right size to deliver the engine's power, and to design an efficient exhaust system, thus optimizing volumetric efficiency.

Three keys, three power levels, one of which is stratospheric

Its unique feature is that it operates on a set of “three keys”, physical keys that unlock three levels of engine performance:

  • The white key provides between 400 hp and 800 hp, programmable via Personal Engineering. That's not bad, is it?
  • The BLACK key gives access to 1670 hp and 1556 Nm of torque at 8500 rpm.
  • Finally, the red RED key totally unleashes the volcano with unreasonable specifications: 2157 HP (1586 kW) at 9000 rpm and 2008 Nm of torque, and all this on unleaded 98. No special fuel. How to exploit all this?
