A few weeks after sparking widespread reactions during its unveiling in China, the Ferrari Luce is beginning to leave the showrooms and hit the streets. The first model has just appeared in Hong Kong, in a striking red-and-black color scheme. A particularly symbolic debut for the first Ferrari 100 % electric vehicles, all 88 of which were announced for the Chinese market and have reportedly already been sold.
The car was notably filmed on the street by Instagrammer @siu_.ethan, who describes it as the «First Ferrari Luce in Hong Kong.» In the photos, the Ferrari immediately catches the eyes—and the smartphones—of passersby. Other photos were also shared by Hong Kong entrepreneur Jeffery Yau (@jefferyyau), founder of Europe Watch Company and Puyi Optical.
This appearance comes on the heels of another high-profile appearance by the Luce in Canada, where Ferrari had unveiled a matte gray model to Ferrari Québec customers. This time, the red-and-black car appears to have left the highly controlled setting of private unveilings, as it was photographed right on the streets of Hong Kong.
The electric Ferrari priced at over €500,000
This launch takes on a special significance in Hong Kong. In late June, we reported that the 88 Ferrari Luce models allocated to the Chinese market had reportedly sold out almost immediately. Its listed price of 3.988 million yuan—approximately 520,000 euros—makes it a product reserved for a tiny fraction of the population.
In the Chinese media and on social media, Luce had, in fact, quickly been described as a new indicator of wealth. More than just an electric Ferrari, it would allow its owner to show off his ability to spend nearly 4 million yuan on an electric vehicle, even though the Chinese auto industry offers models that are significantly cheaper and sometimes more powerful.
Over 1,000 ch for the everyday Ferrari
Yet the Ferrari Luce is more than just a symbol of wealth. As Ferrari’s first all-electric model, it features four motors, all-wheel drive, and delivers more than 1,000 ch. Ferrari claims it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, reach a top speed of 310 km/h, and travel up to 530 km on a single charge thanks to a 122 kWh battery. With its four doors, four seats, and 5.02-meter length, it also moves away from the traditional Ferrari supercar to become a large GT suitable for everyday use.
