The Alfa Romeo Tonale 2025 update is coming soon, with a host of new features

While Alfa Romeo Junior now accounts for the bulk of sales of the brand since the beginning of 2025, the spotlight is now on another model: the Tonale. After two years of disappointing sales, the compact SUV is about to undergo a long-awaited update designed to boost its market momentum.

A few months ago, we announced scheduled for mid-2025. Then, more recently, Alfa Romeo mentioned a deadline pushed back to the end of the year. Today, according to our information, the presentation of the restyled Tonale is indeed imminent. We can't give you an exact date yet, but it looks like it's just a matter of a few months... at most.

And in concrete terms, what can we expect from the Tonale 2025 vintage? Contrary to what the first spy photos released by GabetzSpyUnit suggested thatThere will indeed be a few aesthetic changes. While they will remain discreet, they will have the task of harmonizing the Tonale's design with the brand's new visual identity, recently initiated by Junior.

On the equipment side, improvements are also planned. Alfa Romeo seems intent on modernizing its SUV's technological offering, perhaps with software updates, a revised multimedia interface and even a few new driving aids. In other words, the prototype seen recently was not representative of the final version of the Tonale 2025.

Even if all the details are not yet known, this update seems more ambitious than expected. And that's good news. Alfa Romeo needs the Tonale to regain commercial traction. Combined with the Junior's good performance, the SUV duo could (and must) enable the brand to get closer to 100,000 annual units, at least, while awaiting the next big releases: the second-generation Stelvio and Giulia.

Alfa Romeo now needs to back up this restyling with a hard-hitting communications campaign. After all, it's more than just technical alterations that are at stake: it's a new brand dynamic. To be continued very soon.

  1. It's all very well to upgrade, but if only there were a choice of more powerful engines like the 2.0 mjt and the 1750 tbi, because frankly, 1.3 and 1.5 in petrol are just about right, and they consume like a bigger engine.
BMW or Mercedes still have the choice between small boosted engines or large engines.

    • Alfiste, new generation ( since 2016 ) I had a Giulia Lusso 2.2 diesel 180 hp, a Stelvio Sport Edition 2.2 diesel 210 hp Q4, a Giulia Estrema 2.2 diesel 210 hp Q4 and today a Tonale PHEV Q4 280 hp.
The most beautiful, Giulia Estrema. My favorite, the Stelvio. The most nervous, the Tonale.
After that, the Tonale coffee grinder works well, but when you crush it, the rpm counter goes haywire. Conso, you're wrong.
Electricity 0L/100, Combined 3.5L/100, internal combustion depending on driving (I have a heavy foot) between 7.5L and 8.5L/100.

  2. I hope there will also be major mechanical upgrades to ensure that the car's roadholding lives up to the brand's reputation. As for the engine, the 1750 seems unlikely to me, but the 2.0L GME with ZF gearbox more suitable.

  3. If only Alfa (and Lancia) could recover some Italian 100% DNA and stop looking like yet another STELLANTIS clone! 🙄 Easier said than done, given the expected economies of scale in these groups. Personally, I find it hard to believe that brands like Alfa and Lancia will survive in this kind of organization, unless they offer products full of false promises (thanks to marketing and advertising! 😂). The Junior is proof of this....

    • The only model from the Tavares era at Alfa Romeo is the Junior, that's one model out of a range of four, and that era is over.

      • The Tavares era is over, but products are finalized 2-3 years ahead of schedule. The Stelvio, due to be presented at the end of the year, and the future Guilia next year, should have borne his stamp.

In the end, Mr. Filosa decided to take a hard look at the Stelvio, which will only come out in 2028 instead of 2026. For Guilia, the schedule doesn't seem to have been too rushed for the moment, so it remains to be seen whether the project will remain 100% Tavares or not...

        • the 2028 info is a big pinch. None of my sources has been able to confirm this information, and an Alfa manager told me that the design of the Stelvio is fixed, so it won't move. However, for the launch of a Stelvio in 2026, 2027 or 2028, everything remains on the table.

  5. If its design is to match that of the Junior, I hope it won't be on the front...
I think the current Tonale is so clean! I still can't get used to the Junior's tortured (and, in my opinion, inelegant) front end...

  7. Frankly, it's clear that Alfa wasn't given the means to fulfill its ambitions. The Tonale is a dud unworthy of an Alfa, that's all. Jeep base, heavy make-up that disfigures it, average finish and outdated presentation equipment. Yes, you have to face reality, and not just from the fanboy's point of view.
In short, a patch-up rather than a new model. A sign that Alfa is brain dead.

  9. Sería bueno que hagan alguna versión MANUAL de algún modelo para los que no nos gustan ni un poco los autos automáticos... Tranquilamente podrían hacerlo con el giulia una versión MANUAL.
