It’s often the case that new models from one brand give a hint about those from another within Stellantis. This time, it’s Lancia that may well have let the cat out of the bag. While the information published by Quattroruote are confirmed, the future Lancia Gamma HF The Integrale will deliver 375 ch and offer a WLTP range of up to 675 km. These specs strongly suggest that the future electric SUV from’Alfa Romeo, known internally as Project A4U and intended to replace the Tonale, will feature the same engine in its Veloce trim.
A precedent that leaves little room for doubt
This wouldn’t be the first time. When the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce was launched with its 280 ch, that powertrain was quickly adapted for several models within the group: the Lancia Ypsilon HF, Abarth 600e, Peugeot e-208 GTi, and Opel Corsa GSE. Stellantis has already demonstrated its commitment to sharing its sporty powertrains across models based on the same technical platform.
The upcoming Alfa Romeo SUV will also use the STLA Medium platform, which is already used in the Peugeot e-3008, Lancia Gamma, DS No. 7, and Opel Grandland. As a result, the possibility of a 375 ch Veloce version now seems very plausible.
In fact, this trend toward more power seems to be becoming widespread on this platform. While the Peugeot e-3008 has so far peaked at 325 ch, the upcoming sport versions that have been announced or are expected could all reach around 375 ch: the Lancia Gamma HF, Peugeot e-3008 GTi, Opel Grandland GSE…
Is the battery life finally up to par?
Power, however, wasn’t the main criticism leveled at the Junior Veloce. With its 280 ch, performance was certainly there, but its range was a bigger point of contention. Advertised at 410 km under WLTP standards, it actually delivered just over 300 km under real-world conditions, which limited its appeal for versatile use.
That is precisely where the information revealed by Quattroruote are becoming particularly interesting. The Italian media outlet reports a WLTP range of 675 km for the Lancia Gamma HF Integrale. If this figure is confirmed, it could translate to about 600 km in real-world driving—a level much more in line with the expectations of customers looking for a premium family SUV. The future Alfa Romeo could thus combine performance and range—a balance that was lacking in the Junior Veloce.
The real challenge will be the price
That leaves one key question: How much will it cost to enjoy these 375 ch?
Although Stellantis has not yet announced any pricing for the Lancia Gamma HF, the upcoming DS N°7 offers a clue. The 350 ch electric version, with a range of up to 656 km, starts at €71,520 in the Étoile trim level. It’s hard to imagine an electric Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce with 375 ch being offered at a much lower price.
The upcoming Italian SUV is sure to turn heads with its design, but it will also have to prove that its extra flair justifies a price tag that could approach €70,000. Ultimately, the question may already be a given: would you be willing to invest €70,000 in the upcoming 375 ch all-electric Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce?
