First Alfa Romeo Junior orders: 2 times less than the Tonale?

At the Paris Motor Show, Santo Ficili, new CEO of Alfa Romeo, a revealed the first sales data for Junior. This new compact SUV, presented in April 2024, has already recorded 10,000 orders in Octoberhalf of what Tonale will have achieved by 2022.

As a reminder, the Alfa Romeo Tonale, presented in February 2022, had collected 20,000 orders in October of the same yearwith a target of 45,000 units by 2023. This significant difference may be explained by a profoundly changed market context. In 2024, the automotive industry is facing heightened difficulties, both in terms of sales and economic uncertainty.

The problem doesn't seem to be the price, the Junior, a B-SUV starting at €29,500 for its 136 hp mhev versionThis is an attractive price compared with the Tonale, a C-SUV that debuted in 2022 at €35,400 for its 130 hp mHEV version.

Despite this prizes for Junior, the market remains difficult. Alfa Romeo sales down by more than 6 % in the five main European markets in the first nine months of 2024. However, the 10,000 orders already booked are an encouraging sign for the brand, and should enable it to achieve its target.

Let's also remember that Junior plays a key role in Alfa Romeo's relaunch strategy. With total sales of 70,000 units in 2023 and an ambitious target of over 80,000 by 2024, this new SUV must succeed to "finance" the future of the Italian brand. In 2025, the new D-SUV Stelvio will be launched, in 2026 the new Giulia sedan, and in 2027 an all-new Tonale on the STLA Medium platform.

  1. Far too expensive for a PureToc, because PureToc means a price divided by 4 on resale after one year... Anyway, 30K for a 3-legged mini-SUV is overpriced. At 46K for the Veloce, they've been smoking lino.

And, let's face it, if you want to please everyone, you've got to please no one, especially Alfisti. I hope the next Stelvio isn't inspired by it...

  2. With the departure of Tavarès, perhaps the Italians will regain the lead (!?)
STELLANTIS's setbacks with Puretech engines (especially 🙄), both technically and in terms of commercial handling, should also be taken into account!
When we see the offensive by Renault and Chinese manufacturers, we can only worry about the fate of some of the Group's brands! Confirmed by Carlos TAVARES himself. He had given 10 years! Finally, within 2 years, the fate of some of these brands will be decided!
As for Carlos TAVARES, despite his declarations, will he be able to stay on until the end of his term of office, especially if sales results don't pick up (!?)?
To date, the end of 2026 has been agreed in an attempt to reassure the markets, but what about internally?

  3. Doesn't the name Junior play tricks on him compared to a very Italian name like... Milano???
at least for sales in Italy? What do you think, dear All?
Merci Thank you merci a vous Tous.

  4. I find the junior very successful it should work but it is sure that the economy is not going well .he has a strong personality

  5. I imagine that there are fewer sales of the junior because it's much less beautiful than the tonale (which isn't even very beautiful). Potential customers prefer other, better-known cars to repair them more easily, and those who like the alpha Romeo brand don't want to buy it either.

  7. I like the Junior. Having been to the Mondial de l'Auto, I have to say that the Junior Veloce is really good. As it's lower than the other Junior models, it doesn't look like an SUV. But I wouldn't buy it in the short term, even if the tests (including Alexandre's) are very positive.
Why should I do this? Because I can't get a home charger, as I live in a block of flats.
I'm also waiting to find out about its real range on the road.
I'm not interested in the other Junior models, nor the 156hp, and even less in the PureTech Ibrida.
In the meantime, if I decided to buy a car, I'd be obliged to go and see the competition, in thermal.

  8. And isn't that simply because Alfistes also buy their Alfas for the engine? Now if, in addition to having put a Fiat engine on their old range, they put in the magnificent PSA, which is a nest of problems, the brand's real customers will turn away!

  9. The SUV strategy has failed for Alfa. 1 SUV is enough. Those who have taken or could have taken the step of buying an Alfa want sporty sedans, hatchbacks, city cars or station wagons. And the Junior isn't beautiful (in my opinion), it's made in Poland on Peugeot chassis and engines, it's ridiculous. The Italians need to be honest with themselves and admit their mistakes, get down to work and come up with products that aren't a failed copy-paste of Franco-Germany. E una presa in giro dei clienti! They need to distinguish themselves with a range of sporty family cars at prices in line with the services they can offer. We have to be honest and start from a solid base, telling ourselves that competing with premium cars is over, and offering reasonable prices a la Ford or Opel, but with real Italian cars. That was Alfa not so long ago, and it worked better than it does now.

    • Apparently there will be another SUV, above the Stelvio.

Still no Giulietta. Oh yes, that's right, Imparato said she was replaced by Junior... lol.

The Giulia remains, but Imparato has decided to make it a crossover...

  10. How?! Hardly anyone orders an alfa romeo 1.2 puretoc? How astonishing.....That said, the TV ad campaign is very recent, so that could also be an explanation.

  11. a lot of attacks! is it justified? I've learned that Peugeot has made its engine more reliable! What disappointed me was the hard plastic dashboard and door panels, which is a pity when you see the selling price! they could and should have made an effort on the materials used!
The fact that it's made in Poland isn't a problem - other brands like the German premiums have their cars built in countries other than their own!
Here we are comparing very different periods! the less people buy, the more prices will fall.....for €2000 more, Peugeot offers a much better-finished 408!
We are also in a complicated period, the choice is very complicated hybrids, electric etc .....For me the Junior is three to four thousand € too expensive. it remains a small car.

  12. How is it possible that a brand that was once powered or towed by Boxer, twin spark, V6 Busso and even V8 (Monreale) engines, and more recently a Ferrari-sourced V6 on the Giulia and Stelvio, now finds itself with a Pijot turd under the hood?
