A customer takes delivery of his ‘Lyla’ Totem, inspired by a 1960s Alfa Romeo—except that it has a 640 HP V6 engine

Deliveries are coming in one after another at Totem Automobili, but no GT Super seems to really resemble the previous one. After « Euforia », « Brado Coastline » or, more recently, « Desideria », the Italian customizer unveils a new creation built for one of its clients. Its name: «Lyla.» And this time, rather than going for a spectacular color, Totem has designed a two-tone paint scheme that looks like it came straight out of the 1970s. Beneath this retro exterior lies a very modern car, inspired by the 1960s Alfa Romeo Giulia GT and equipped with the 640 HP twin-turbo V6 engine developed in collaboration with Italtecnica.

A new «Turismo 70» livery»

«Lyla» was customized through the Totem Individual program, which allows customers to take the personalization of their GT Super to the next level. For this model, Totem is introducing a new configuration called «Turismo 70.».

The body combines Grigio Milano metallic with a three-layer pearlescent white paint. The latter covers the entire front end and also frames the taillights. Viewed from the front, the GT Super takes on a radically different look: the white front fascia encompasses the four circular headlights and the famous triangular grille, creating a striking contrast with the rest of the dark gray body. This combination further enhances the car’s neo-retro appeal. The classically styled wheels and numerous metallic accents complete this look, while the carbon-fiber body retains the proportions directly inspired by the Alfa Romeo coupes designed by Bertone in the 1960s.

A material from the 1970s that extends into the passenger compartment

Inside, Totem chose to extend the exterior contrast with a much darker ambiance. Black Nappa leather dominates the cabin, accented by white stitching that directly echoes the body’s color scheme. But two details in particular are worth noting: the steering wheel and the manual transmission shift knob. For these parts, which are CNC-machined according to Totem’s own design, the company used a technopolymer that has been employed in industrial design since the 1970s and is composed primarily of aluminum trihydrate.

The material is machined from a solid block to produce parts that are durable, precise, and exceptionally pleasant to the touch. In the photos, its almost mineral-like white appearance contrasts sharply with the black leather and metal accents in the cockpit. It’s a rather subtle way of paying homage to the 1970s without simply replicating an old-fashioned interior.

Still 640 HP

While Totem primarily highlights the specifications of this new «Lyla,» the mechanical underpinnings remain the same as those we’ve come to know well. The GT Super is powered by the «Gloria» engine, a 2.8-liter twin-turbo V6 developed in collaboration with Italtecnica. It delivers 640 HP and 655 Nm of torque, transmitted exclusively to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

Thanks to its monocoque and carbon-fiber body, the GT Super weighs approximately 1,180 kg and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. These are the performance figures of a modern supercar, wrapped in a silhouette reminiscent of an Alfa Romeo from over sixty years ago. With only 40 GT Super models planned and an Individual program that offers owners a great deal of freedom, Totem continues to make each delivery a unique unveiling. Following the flamboyant colors of ’Euforia« and the green-and-bronze combination of »Desideria,« »Lyla« adopts a more graphic aesthetic. And it proves once again that, even with the same GT Super, Totem can tell very different stories.
