Stellantis reassures: the future electric Fiat 500 will still be produced in Italy

Stellantisthe automotive group resulting from the merger of PSA and FCA, has just made an announcement that has allayed the concerns not only of employees at the Mirafiori plant in Italy, but also of Italian car enthusiasts. The electric Fiat 500, a symbol of urban mobility and Italian design, will continue to be produced in Turin.

This decision comes after a period of intense speculation, fueled by the challenges facing the automotive industry, including the transition to electrification and global competitiveness. Mirafiori, an emblematic site of Fiat since its creation, has gone through difficult times, oscillating between production cutbacks and short-time workingmainly due to insufficient demand.

What's more, Maserati Levante production shutdownthe replacement for the first-generation electric Fiat 500and a recent rumour suggesting a collaboration with Chinese manufacturer Leapmotor to produce low-cost electric vehicles at Mirafiori raised questions about the future of the plant.

However, Stellantis has confirmed the continuation of production of the current electric Fiat 500 and future versions at the Turin plant.. The announcement served to ease tensions with the Italian government and local stakeholders, in response to speculation about possible plant closures in the country.

  1. The only solution for Elkann and Stellantis is to get rid of the Portuguese and his French acolytes. The Italian car industry deserves something other than the dung from Sochaux.

    I mean, it's like VW with its Skoda, Seat and Audi brands, the same bodies everywhere, just with slightly different bodywork and different finishes.

    • Except that in this group, the conflicts between Audi, Skoda and VAG are tense because the latter is cannibalizing a large part of their customers, it is Finanmet more profitable and more reliable the smallest of the brands has become the one that hangs its head... Here, not only is the base the same, but with a single engine that's unreliable for all, has a displacement and hybridization that's too light, you can't do premium like Lancia with it, nor sporty for Alfa. It's totally surreal.
