Fiat launches the electric Ducato!

Very late in the electrical sector, FCA, and more particularly Fiatdecides to shoot in turns.

So, a few days before the upgrade of the Mirafiori plant, destined to host the future 500e, Fiat revealed a Electric Ducato. If there's one model where we didn't expect the 100% electric fairy to appear, it's the large van segment. And yet, Fiat seems to have made up its mind.

Even if it is not for the moment only a prototypeThe vehicle seems to be well underway. It will allow the deliverymen to circulate easily in the downtown and near suburbs, at a time of traffic restrictions.

Several battery levels and therefore power will be available, depending on the consumer's wishes. Autonomies included between 220 and 360 km are mentioned by Fiat (according to the NEDC cycle), a range that could be less in real life with the new WLTP cycle (160 km minimum). The engine will deliver approximately 122 hp (which, under full load, could be quite light, let's face it...) for 280 Nm of torque. The maximum speed is limited to 100 km/h to maximize electric range. According to Fiat, this model would be suitable for 25% of its customers.

It should be noted that although the electrified Citroën Jumper and Peugeot Boxer are also part of the game and are produced in the same factory in Sevel Sud, they do not use the same battery and therefore offer certainly different performances.

If no price is mentioned for the moment, you should know that The first examples should arrive in dealerships in one year, in 2020.

    • It's marked, 160kms in NEDC cycle, that was only addressed (three years ago) to a quarter of the customers according to the brand itself, that is to say mainly craftsmen who move in town in ZFE. The idea is to increase the capacity of the batteries as the suppliers multiply, the prices drop and the energy density increases so as not to explode the weight. It will also be necessary to strongly increase the capacity of on-board chargers to go to 150kW in DC for a fast charge and 22kW in AC. Electrification works, the torque is huge and immediately available, the operation is silent and the energy can be renewable and locally produced, so it is the future. And well, as much as with sports cars we can regret the noise and the pleasure of the mechanics, as much as with a diesel there are not too many regrets to have.
