Fiat recently revealed its global figures for 2024 in a press release. With over 1.2 million units sold, the brand retains its leading position within the Stellantis Group, but these results conceal very different realities in different markets.. While Fiat boasts the number-one position in several regions, notably Brazil, the trend is less brilliant in Europe and on other continents. Let's take a closer look at Fiat's performance in 2024.
Fiat succeeds in Brazil, but falls elsewhere
Fiat will undoubtedly dominate the Brazilian market in 2024, recording impressive figures. With a market share of 20.9% and more than 521,000 units sold, Fiat Strada, the best-selling model, consolidated this leading position. The performance in South America is all the more striking with the introduction of hybrid versions of the Pulse and Fastback models, vehicles which already seem to be carving out a place for themselves in the region.
Year | Fiat worldwide sales | Brazil | Italy | Turkey |
---|---|---|---|---|
2024 | 1.2 million | 521 000 | 190 000 | 94 000 |
2023 | 1.35 million | 474 000 | 224 000 | 193 000 |
2022 | 1.2 million | 429 000 | 225 000 | 146 000 |
2021 | 1.3 million | 431 000 | 274 000 | 121 000 |
However, this Brazilian success contrasts with significant declines elsewhere. Like as we revealed a few weeks agoIn Italy, if we take into account light vehicles and therefore exclude commercial vehicles, the automaker recorded a 17% drop in sales compared to 2023, with just 143,814 cars sold. The situation is hardly any better in Turkey, Germany, France and the UK, where 2024 sales figures fell by 24%, 24%, 20% and 14% respectively.
The table below shows the top 6 countries for light vehicles only.
Country | Sales 2023 | Sales 2024 | Evolution % |
---|---|---|---|
Brazil | 475527 | 521184 | 9.6 % |
Italy | 174587 | 143814 | -17 % |
Turkey | 125348 | 94737 | -24 % |
Germany | 76535 | 57561 | -24 % |
France | 40336 | 32183 | -20 % |
United Kingdom | 16598 | 14253 | -14 % |
Italy: from number 1 to soon number 3?
Over the past 10 years, Italy has often shared first place with Brazil. Since 2020, however, second place has been at stake with Turkey. In some months of 2024, such as November, Turkey bought more Fiat cars than Italy. In 2025, with the arrival of the Fiat Grande Panda, we can expect Italy to consolidate its number 2 position.
Algeria: a special market
Algeria, cited as a strategic market in Fiat's press release, presents an ambiguous situation. The impressive market share of 62 % in 2024 and over 64,000 units sold conceals a reality linked to a local constraint. In 2024, Algeria did not have an import quota and was therefore unable to import any vehicles. In the absence of any real competition, Fiat, with its new plant in Algeria, took advantage of this opportunity to sell to the point of saturating its production. This is why Fiat has record sales of its 500 hybrid in Algeria.
Europe needs the Grande Panda and the 500 hybrid
Fiat continues to claim leadership in the electric vehicle segment with the 500e, a model that is virtually alone in this niche until the end of the year. Renault makes a comeback with the new electric Twingo. This leading position seems less impressive when we take into account the absence of direct competitors.
Fiat CEO Olivier François spoke of the transition underway in the European market, stressing that the brand was facing a difficult period but remained confident for the future. Lhe release of the new electric and hybrid Fiat Grande Panda, scheduled for 2025, should give Fiat a boost in the European market. The 500 hybrid, due to arrive at the end of 2025, will bear fruit in 2026.
Fiat no longer succeeds in North America
Fiat, which was relatively successful on the North American market in the previous decade (with the 500, 500 Abarth and 500e, as well as the 124 and 500x), has completely stalled in recent years. For some years now, Fiat has been trying to sell electric 500s. he big marketing pushwithout success. It seems that Americans, like Europeans, want more affordable 500s and Abarths.

The more the PureTech spreads, the less the brand sells.
CQFD
100% true
To understand this, just look at the number of Fiat models sold in Brazil, and the small number of Fiat models in Europe.
Fiat's strategy in Europe is a complete failure.
