We're talking about a Ferrari F50 very special: a copy that would have been on loan from Ferrari to Michael Schumacher in the late 1990s, when he was still driving for the Scuderia.
The story was told by the teams from Curated, American specialist in exceptional classic cars, in a long video devoted to their research into several rare models. But amidst the Lamborghini Countach, AMG Hammer and Mercedes CLK GTR, it was the F50 that caught our eye.
An investigation conducted like a treasure hunt
The story begins like a true automotive investigation. The Curated teams explain that they spend a great deal of their time researching the history of rare models, digging through archives and finding forgotten documents in order to reconstruct the lives of certain exceptional cars.

In the course of their research, a specific Ferrari F50 caught their attention. The car already seemed interesting, but many rumors surrounded its past. The story was finally confirmed with the help of Marcel Massini, considered one of the world's greatest Ferrari historians. According to the information found, this F50 was one of two used by Ferrari at the time and then loaned to Michael Schumacher during the years when the German raced for the Italian marque.
A Ferrari F50 used by Schumacher in Monaco
According to the research in the video, the car was originally registered to Safret, a German company specializing in cardboard. But behind this structure lies a far more prestigious use.

Marcel Massini has confirmed that this Ferrari F50 was loaned to Michael Schumacher, who used it between Monaco and the south of France in 1999. A period when the German driver had already become Ferrari's big star, well before his world titles in the early 2000s. After this use, the car was sold in Monaco through the Monaco Motors dealership, before joining the collection of an important Ferrari collector who kept it until recently.

What also impressed the Curated teams was the car's state of preservation. The Ferrari F50 has just over 3,000 miles on the clock, or less than 5,000 kilometers. In the video, they describe a virtually intact car, with the carbon weave still perfectly visible throughout the bodywork. For them, this F50 is not just a rare supercar: it's a veritable time capsule linked to the history of Ferrari and Schumacher.

Curated's founder explains that he grew up surrounded by Ferrari F50s. His father was a Ferrari dealer and specialist in the 1990s, when these models were still regularly serviced in his workshop. He even recounts taking part in a clutch replacement operation on an F50 when he was a teenager.

The Ferrari F50, an absolute legend of the 1990s
Produced in just 349 examples between 1995 and 1997, the Ferrari F50 remains one of the most emblematic Ferraris of the modern era. Equipped with an atmospheric V12 derived from Formula 1 and a carbon-fiber chassis, it represented Ferrari's most radical vision for the road at the time. Long overshadowed by the Ferrari F40 and then the Enzo, the F50 has been enjoying a spectacular revival among collectors for several years now.
So when an example also has a direct link to Michael Schumacher, its importance immediately becomes historic. For, beyond its rarity, it's an entire Ferrari era that resurfaces: that of the German driver's early days at Maranello, before the absolute domination of the early 2000s. And in the world of collectors, this kind of information can change everything.
