Mike Tyson's former Ferrari F50 is going up for auction, along with an unusual item that could very well drive up its price

Some Ferrari are already legends simply by virtue of their existence. For others, their story takes on an extra dimension when they pass into the hands of an extraordinary figure. This is precisely the case with this Ferrari F50 A 1995 model, the first one owned by Mike Tyson, will be offered without a reserve by RM Sotheby’s at the Monterey auction on August 15. Its estimate ranges from $7 million to $9 million, but its history could very well drive the bidding even higher.

An F50 with an extraordinary history

This F50 is not like other Ferraris. It is the 73rd of the 349 produced, and one of only 55 cars intended for the U.S. market. Assembled in late 1995, it was delivered in 1996 to Mike Tyson, who had just regained his undisputed world heavyweight championship title following his victory over Frank Bruno.

The boxer, a passionate collector of exceptional cars, would keep it for only a few months before selling it. Over the years, it passed through the hands of several renowned American collectors, each of whom took care to preserve its authenticity. In 2008, Ferrari issued the highly coveted Ferrari Classiche Red Book, certifying that the car’s engine, transmission, chassis, and body were all original. This certificate is particularly sought after for this type of model, as it guarantees the car’s mechanical integrity.

Born from Formula 1

Unveiled in 1995 to celebrate Ferrari’s 50th anniversary, the F50 is one of the most radical cars ever approved for road use by the Maranello-based manufacturer. Its carbon-fiber monocoque, bodywork combining carbon fiber, Kevlar, and Nomex, and its naturally aspirated 4.7-liter V12 engine—derived from the Ferrari F92A Formula 1 engine—all attest to its direct racing heritage. Delivering 513 ch and 470 Nm of torque, the twelve-cylinder engine propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and achieves a top speed of 325 km/h. Unlike its predecessor, the F40, the F50 also features a removable roof, allowing drivers to enjoy the V12 in barchetta configuration.

Sold with a pair of... boxing gloves!

The car being offered for sale has only 6,196 miles on the odometer—just under 10,000 kilometers—which is exceptional mileage for a thirty-year-old car. Prior to this sale, Ferrari Newport Beach performed a major mechanical overhaul to ensure optimal performance. The future owner will also receive the original hardtop, the owner’s manuals, tools, a set of three Ferrari F50 luggage pieces, period documentation, several maintenance invoices, the certificate of origin, and… a pair of Everlast boxing gloves autographed by Mike Tyson—a unique nod to its first owner.

How high can the bidding go?

The estimate of $7 million to $9 million seems reasonable given the current market, but there’s no guarantee that it will be the final price. Since the beginning of 2026, several Ferrari F50s have far exceeded these levels: a nearly new example with just 252 miles on the odometer sold for $12.21 million at Mecum, while another F50 changed hands for $9.79 million last May. Other recent sales at RM Sotheby’s have ranged from $8.8 million to $9.25 million.

With its thoroughly documented history, its Ferrari Classiche certificate, its low mileage, and—above all—its direct connection to one of the greatest icons in world boxing, this F50 has all the makings of a star at Monterey Car Week. It remains to be seen whether the prestige of Mike Tyson’s name will be enough to set a new record when the hammer falls.
