Alfa Romeo soon to return to the compact sedan market

Whereas just a few years ago, the Mito and Giulietta were still in the catalog, today the Mito and Giulietta range has been expanded. Alfa Romeo is made up of a sedan, two SUVs, and soon the Milano, another SUV. Will the Italian brand return to the compact sedan market? Yes, but not just yet.

For the moment, Alfa Romeo has two priorities: electrification and SUVs. As a reminder, in Europe, 1 in 2 new cars is an SUV. That's why, in the short term, the range will comprise 3 SUVs - Milano, Tonale, Stelvio - and a crossover sedan, the future Giulia. But rest assured, a compact version will join the ranks later.

Last year, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato told our colleagues at Autocar that "a compact sedan could be a major source of profit". And this is indeed what we were able to confirm, having been able to consult a document presenting the Alfa Romeo product plan to 2028, the Giulietta will arrive in 2027.

The new Giulietta will be on STLA Medium and therefore in 400V architecture, with power ratings ranging from 160 kW (217 hp) to 285 kW (387 hp), front-wheel or 4-wheel drive, and a length of between 4.3 and 4.9 m. It will be a technical cousin of the future DS4, Peugeot 308 and Lancia Delta, due to arrive in 2028.

  1. Don't worry, it's easy to say: an electric 308 rebadged as an Alfa Romeo Giulietta doesn't reassure me that much.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen presents a second version of the Golf 8 internal combustion model. Proof that combustion engines are not dead.
Finally, for Alfa, a compact sedan will always be better than the countless SUVs, Giulia included (crossover, it will no longer be a real sedan).

  2. And while Alfa Romeo will be launching its red Peugeot 308 with an Italian flag in 2027, Volkswagen will be releasing the 9th-generation Golf in 800V electric drive on the SSP platform, the Volkswagen Group's future unique architecture that will replace both the MEB and PPE, and which Bentley and Lamborghini are waiting for to launch their first electric vehicles.

  3. Yet another product plan...
I don't know what to think anymore....
You have to make ex-Alfists dream, sell wind. That's what Stellantis does, very well... But the delays are enormous, interminable, almost illusory.....
    We'll see.....

  4. If it's to recognize at first glance a 308 like the future Milano (Peugeot 2008) or the current launch of the new Ypsilon (Peugeot 208) 🙄, no interest! An Alfa, like any Italian, is above all a design! Already, when it comes to engines, it's a goner. But between now and 2028, we're likely to see a few more upheavals 🫣. Tavares is studying a rapprochement with GM! 😅

    • Alfiste since 1980, I remain dubious about future models!!!! PSA is trying to rebadge its models under more glorious logos.
      No interest for me.
