Abarth 600: power, release date, here's the latest news

The Abarth 600, the sporty version of the new Fiat 600, is gradually being revealed. Information has been trickling in over the last few months, but Fiat CEO Olivier François's conference on the occasion of the Italian brand's 125th anniversary brought new revelations.

The main announcement concerns the power of the Abarth 600. This 100 % electric version, initially rated at 240 hp, will now benefit from 280 hp. This 40 hp increase puts the Abarth 600 at the same level level as the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce and the Lancia Ypsilon HFboth powered by the Emotors M4 electric motor. Like its counterparts, the Abarth 600 is expected to be a front-wheel-drive model.

Unlike the Alfa Romeo Junior and Lancia Ypsilon HF, the Abarth 600 dares with the addition of an artificial sound imitating that of thermal exhaust. If this device is similar to that of the Abarth 500e, it will probably be offered as an option that can be deactivated on demand, allowing drivers to choose their sound experience.

Olivier François also confirmed that the the Abarth 600e will be available from November 2024. Compared with its rivals, the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce will be available by the end of 2024, and the Lancia Ypsilon HF in 2025. The Abarth 600e, with similar specifications, should reach 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and offer a WLTP range of around 400 km. It will also be equipped with a limited-slip differential, a feature that could be similar to, if not the same as, the Torsen differential on the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce.

The only remaining mystery concerns the price of the Abarth 600e. While the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce will be sold for around €48,000, it's reasonable to assume that the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce will be sold for around €48,000. the Abarth 600e will cost between €40,000 and €45,000.

  1. Finally some good news, I've always said that the example comes from above, it seems that before Fiat didn't have good examples, now I see that with good examples Fiat will become FIAT again.

  2. It's a shame there aren't different power ratings for the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, Lancia Ypsilon HF, and Abarth 600e.
The difference will just be the bodywork?
It's true that VW does the same with the group's brands.

  3. No, it's just that the VW group always makes distinctions (even if they're sometimes minimal) to respect the hierarchy and "philosophy" of the brands.

  4. These electric Abarths are a disaster when you compare them to the driving pleasure of combustion engines.

    • I swapped a 300hp Subaru STI 11 for an Enyaq RS of the same power... At first, I was sad to say it... But... At least for me, electrics give me much more driving pleasure! Can't wait to try out a 600E or Ypsilon HF.

  5. Finally, and fortunately, the Fiat 600 is the Stellantis model whose design is the furthest removed from the Peugeot 2008.
