Sometimes all it takes is seeing a few people gathered behind the factory gates Pagani to realize that something is in the works. A few days ago, in San Cesario sul Panaro, in the province of Modena, all eyes were on a new Utopia which was leaving the factory to head to the showroom where its delivery was to take place. And not just any car: this is the Pagani Utopia, number 74 of the 99 coupes planned. A new model that serves as a reminder of just how much of a mini-event every car rolling off the assembly line remains for the Italian automaker.
Four years after the unveiling of Utopia
Unveiled in September 2022, the Utopia marks the third major chapter in Pagani’s history, following the Zonda and the Huayra. Internally, the C10 project took more than six years of work, eight full-scale prototypes, and thousands of drawings before the final car was completed.
For its owner, the wait has certainly been a long one. Nearly four years after the model was unveiled, his Utopia is finally ready to hit the road. Its design stands out with a metallic silver body paired with red interior accents. According to the first images shared following its delivery, the interior of the hood and the engine compartment are also finished in a particularly vibrant red.
This No. 74 belongs to an extremely exclusive club. Pagani limited production of the Utopia Coupé to just 99 units, all of which were allocated to customers. The Roadster, which was unveiled later, is set to be produced in a run of 130 units.
An AMG V12 and a true manual transmission
Rarity, however, is only part of the story. With the Utopia, Pagani has deliberately bucked the trend of an automotive industry dominated by hybrid technology and dual-clutch transmissions. During development, the brand’s customers had expressed three wishes: simplicity, lightness, and driving pleasure.
Behind the driver sits a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine developed by Mercedes-AMG specifically for Pagani, delivering 864 ch and 1,100 Nm of torque. Most importantly, the Utopia can be equipped with a genuine seven-speed Xtrac manual transmission, developed to handle the twelve-cylinder engine’s impressive torque. Pagani emphasizes that a simple manual transmission simulation would not have been acceptable for this car.
With a claimed curb weight of just 1,280 kg, the Utopia sticks to a formula that has become almost anachronistic in the world of modern hypercars: plenty of power, light weight, and a driving experience that still puts the driver front and center.
Will it make its first appearance on the road soon?
For now, the available images mainly allow us to admire the Utopia No. 74 at the factory and in the delivery showroom. Its metallic silver finish contrasts with its dark wheels featuring red accents, while the interior remains largely hidden behind the windows. One thing is notably missing: seeing it outside, on the road. That shouldn’t be long in coming now that delivery has taken place. One final question remains: in which country will this Utopia No. 74 make its first public appearance?
