61 units, 2,040 hp, 1.96 million euros: this Italian electric hypercar that nobody has heard of

As Ferrari has entered a new era with the Ferrari Luce, with its first electric GT 100 % producing over 1,000 ch, another Italian automaker has even more radical ambitions. Far less well-known to the general public, Automobili Estrema is in fact developing the Fulminea, a 2,040 ch electric hypercar conceived by Gianfranco Pizzuto, an Italian entrepreneur and former employee of Fisker Automotive, with the stated goal of competing with the segment’s leading models, such as the Rimac Nevera and the Pininfarina Battista.

First unveiled as a prototype in 2021, the Fulminea is now set to go on sale in 2026 in an extremely limited production run.

Another Italian Take on the Electric Hypercar

While Ferrari opted for a Grand Tourer approach with the Luce—which can accommodate four occupants in a spacious cabin—the Estrema follows the path of the pure hypercar. The Fulminea is built on a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, weighs only about 1,500 kg, and is designed first and foremost for exceptional performance.

Four electric motors—one per wheel—deliver a combined output of 1,500 kW, or 2,040 ch, with an all-wheel-drive system featuring torque vectoring. The manufacturer claims a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 1.95 seconds and a top speed exceeding 350 km/h. Even more impressive, the Fulminea is said to be capable of reaching 320 km/h in less than ten seconds.

The project’s true originality lies in its battery. As early as 2021, Automobili Estrema announced its intention to use a hybrid architecture combining solid-electrolyte cells developed by ABEE Group and ultracapacitors. The goal was to achieve an energy density of 500 Wh/kg while limiting the battery’s weight to approximately 300 kg. On paper, this technology would enable a WLTP range of over 520 km and fast charging from 10% to 80% in less than fifteen minutes. While these figures remain highly ambitious, they demonstrate Estrema’s commitment to standing out through innovation as much as through performance.

Designed by Italian specialists

The Fulminea also boasts a distinctly Italian design. Its styling, developed in collaboration with EPTA Design, blends fluid surfaces inspired by 1960s sports cars with highly contemporary aerodynamic elements. The butterfly doors, active rear wing, sculpted air intakes, and OZ Racing wheels reinforce its spectacular identity. The manufacturer explains that it sought to preserve the spirit of the initial sketch all the way through to the production model, staying true to the tradition of Italian automotive design.

A low-key project backed by reputable partners

To bring its project to life, Automobili Estrema has built a network of specialized partners. IMECAR is handling the integration of the battery system, McLaren Applied is working on the electric motors, Bridgestone is supplying the tires, OZ Racing is providing the wheels, and NablaFlow is contributing to the aerodynamic development. Upstream Security is responsible for the vehicle’s cybersecurity.

With only 61 units planned and a price tag of around 1.96 million euros before taxes, the Fulminea will remain an exceptional vehicle intended for a handful of collectors. It remains to be seen whether this ambitious Italian hypercar will finally make the leap from being a technological promise to becoming a true rival to the best electric supercars on the market. The first models were expected in 2023, then 2024, and then 2025… For now, orders are still being accepted.
