This expert sells 1,000 cars a year and reveals the three Ferraris and one Lamborghini that could still increase in value

Has the classic car market gone crazy? Some Ferrari and Lamborghini have multiplied in value over the past few years, to the point where the prices charged just a decade ago are almost unrecognizable. However, according to Nick Whale, a former British pilot and founder of’Iconic Auctioneers, some models may still have room for improvement.

This man knows what he's talking about. His company sells about a thousand vehicles a year, and he himself has owned some of today's most sought-after supercars. His assessment is quite clear: the market is undergoing a generational shift.

Analog cars are all the rage

According to Nick Whale, models from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s are currently benefiting from a strong underlying trend. Collectors who wanted them when they were younger are now reaching an age where they have the means to afford them.

Vintage cars are particularly sought after. This trend partly explains the surge in Ferrari F40. According to Whale, a model that might have sold for around 700,000 euros a decade ago can now fetch three or even four million euros. At such levels, however, he wonders if the F40 isn’t already nearing its peak. He therefore prefers to look at more recent Ferraris that are still undervalued.

Several Ferraris could still climb higher

The Ferrari F430 Scuderia 16M has particularly caught his attention. Produced in a limited run of just 499 units, this version celebrates Ferrari’s Formula 1 titles. A fine example would now fetch around 900,000 euros, whereas three years ago the car could still be purchased for around 250,000 euros.

The Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale is another contender. Despite the increase already seen, Nick Whale believes it still has room to grow. His enthusiasm speaks volumes: he owns one and says he’d like to have five.

The Ferrari 458 Speciale, which is valued at around 600,000 euros according to industry experts, is also part of this highly sought-after generation of Ferraris. In general, Nick Whale believes that the Italian brand holds a particularly strong position in the classic car market for vehicles priced between 500,000 and one million euros.

At Lamborghini, the Diablo could be the next one

But perhaps the most interesting prediction concerns Lamborghini. Nick Whale specifically mentions the Diablo among the cars in which he still sees «a lot of room for growth.» His reasoning is based in particular on the evolution of the Murciélago. He explained that a few days earlier he had sold a Murciélago SV for over one million euros. In his view, the Diablo should logically follow the same path.

Certain models might be in particularly high demand, starting with the 5.7-liter Diablo VT Roadster. These cars have become so hard to find that, when asked about their price, Nick Whale almost responds with a question of his own: you’d still have to find one for sale. It’s said that only a few dozen right-hand-drive models (remember, he’s British) were ever produced.

It is precisely this combination that seems to make all the difference today: rarity, analog mechanics, a powerful image, and nostalgia among a generation now able to pay top dollar for the cars they once dreamed of owning. For the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale and F430 Scuderia 16M, as well as certain Lamborghini Diablo models, Nick Whale clearly believes that their story may not be over yet.
