Three months ago, Ferrari had filed several trademarks that hinted at a full lineup centered around its new hypercar. Among them were F80 Targa, F80 Roadster, FXX80, and, most notably, F80XX. At the time, these were still just trademarks. But the latter may have just taken on a very concrete form.
A mysterious Ferrari prototype was indeed photographed during testing at the Portimão circuit in Portugal. Although the photos were taken from a distance, its silhouette leaves little room for doubt: it is indeed a heavily modified F80. And everything suggests that what we’re looking at is the future Ferrari F80XX.
Radical F80
The most striking difference is at the rear. The production F80 features an active spoiler integrated into the bodywork, capable of raising and lowering itself according to aerodynamic needs. On this prototype, Ferrari has installed a massive fixed wing mounted on «gooseneck» supports, much more similar to what you’d find on a race car.
The rest of the bodywork appears to have been designed with the same philosophy in mind. The front bumper features a much more aggressive splitter, while the rear diffuser looks significantly larger. A small vertical fin is also visible on the roof, a further sign of sophisticated aerodynamic engineering.
Another particularly interesting detail: the exhaust. On the standard F80, the exhaust tips are located at the rear of the car. On this prototype, they appear to have been moved much higher up, directly onto the hood, just below the spoiler.
Preview in July in Portimão
Although posted a few hours ago on Reddit, these images of the prototype spotted at the Portimão circuit date back to July 27, 2026. Not knowing exactly what car it was, he had asked the r/whatisthiscar community for help. Several users recognized the proportions of the F80 and speculated that it might be the first F80XX. The author of the post then shared a video in which the prototype could also be heard on the track.

How far can Ferrari push the F80?
The baseline is already particularly extreme. The Ferrari F80 The production model delivers 1,200 ch thanks to its 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 hybrid engine—developed based on experience gained with the 499P—paired with three electric motors. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.15 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 5.75 seconds, and has a top speed of 350 km/h.
However, the F80XX could go much further in terms of downforce, weight, braking, and chassis settings. An increase in power is also possible, although no reliable technical information has been released yet.
Above all, the «XX» badge would place this F80 in the lineage of the most exclusive Ferraris ever produced, alongside the FXX, 599XX, and FXX-K—cars developed primarily for the track and intended for a handful of privileged customers. Ferrari has not yet made anything official. But between the registration of the name “F80XX” this spring and this prototype now spotted undergoing intensive testing, doubts are seriously beginning to fade.
