In 2 years, Alfa Romeo will unveil this new car, which is inspired by the new CuoreRosso concept.

A few days ago, Alfa Romeo revealed its spectacular CuoreRosso concept. A car that Alfa Romeo enthusiasts would love to see more often, with particularly attractive styling and a hybrid V6 under the hood. But while this concept was developed in just six months, it will likely be several years before we see a production model like it hit the market. On the other hand, Another Alfa Romeo is expected to incorporate some of its design elements as early as 2028: the next-generation Giulietta. And we now have a pretty clear idea of what lies ahead.

A new Giulietta is expected in 2028

During the presentation of the CuoreRosso concept, we were able to talk with Daniele Chiari, Head of Products at Alfa Romeo. He had confirmed to us, among other things, that the illustration unveiled last May during the presentation of Stellantis’ FastLane 2030 plan did indeed depict the Italian brand’s future compact car.

While the design of the upcoming Alfa Romeo SUV, expected in late 2027, has been finalized for some time, The next-generation Giulietta is expected to be one of the first models to adopt the new design language introduced by CuoreRosso. It could be unveiled in 2028, although its model name has yet to be confirmed. And unlike the previous Giulietta, it won’t be a traditional compact sedan, but rather a crossover. Keep in mind, however, that this doesn’t necessarily mean an SUV. Instead, imagine a slightly raised car, somewhat in the style of the Renault 5. With a length we estimate to be between 4.40 and 4.50 meters, this Alfa Romeo will remain firmly positioned in the C-segment.

Hybrid and electric powertrains, but no V6s

Technically, this future Giulietta will be based on the STLA One platform, an architecture set to power some 30 European models from the Stellantis Group. We already know that Alfa Romeo is planning several types of powertrains: electric, mild hybrid (MHEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and conventional hybrid (HEV). According to our information and estimates, the lineup could center around the 1.2L MHEV, the 1.6L PHEV, and a new 1.6L HEV. The latter has yet to be introduced in Europe. A 210 ch powertrain already exists in the United States, but the technical solution chosen for Europe could be different.

However, don’t expect to find the CuoreRosso hybrid V6 in a Giulietta Quadrifoglio. That powertrain isn’t planned for the STLA One platform. At best, we might see a Veloce version equipped with a PHEV or HEV powertrain.

What if the next Giulietta really looked like this?

Ultimately, it’s the design where this new Alfa Romeo could surprise us. By incorporating certain elements from the CuoreRosso, particularly its new visual identity, the Giulietta could have a much more assertive character than that of traditional compact cars. So we’ve imagined what this future 2028 Alfa Romeo Giulietta might look like. And we have to admit, the result is quite appealing!

An Alfa Romeo Giulietta starting at €31,000?

Of course, there’s still the question of price. To get an initial idea, let’s look at Peugeot, which currently offers its 308 starting at €31,200. With a shared platform and positioning in the same segment, we estimate that the future Giulietta could start at around €31,000. This is still just a hypothesis, but it already gives us a sense of how it would stack up against the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series. So, an Alfa Romeo Giulietta with this design, a choice of several engines, and a price tag of around €31,000—would you be tempted?

  1. I'm waiting to see what's under the hood, and whether the next Giulietta will be too tall.
If they're still using PureTech engines, no thanks—a nice design won't be enough.

  2. Nice illustration. But I wouldn't call the R5 a crossover. Examples of compact crossovers include the Citroën C4, the EV4, or even the ID3 (Cupra Born). They're all 1.50 m wide, give or take 3 cm.

    • It really comes down to perception. I can't remember who it was—here or on Facebook—who said the EV4 wasn't a crossover. The line seems to be a fine one, and it's up to each person to decide.
