Maserati Q1 2024: unsurprisingly, the figures plunge... a lot!

Stellantis has just published its group results, and while they're not very good, either in Europe or North America, we're going to focus here on the brand. Maserati. And no surprises, figures plunge... a lot!

We've been talking about it all through 2023, and now at the start of 2024, while brands like Lamborghini and Ferrari post record figures, Maserati seems to have drowned in its strategy. While models like the MC20 and MCXtrema are to be applauded, as is the participation of customer teams in GT2, the market is no longer aligned with the Trident brand's offering.

We also sensed this a week ago with registration figures for France, Germany and Italy. Without further ado, the brand will have produced 3,300 cars in Q1 2024 compared with 8,400 in Q1 2023. And its sales are €300,000,000 versus €700,000,000 (-55 %).

Maserati production 2010 - 2024

Maserati attributes these figures to lower production levels (-61 %) of the Grecale and Levante, and the end of production of the Ghibli and Quattroporte. The Ghibli and Quattroporte date from 2013 and have not been renewed, the Levante could have had its lifespan extended with updates, and the Gecale is a good product, but with the wrong positioning for a luxury brand. This SUV did well last year, selling for €80,000 or more, but once the clientele is exhausted, there's nothing else to offer.

If we're talking about sales and not just production, Maserati is announcing 4,800 cars sold in Q1 2024 vs. 7,200 in Q1 2023. In other words, the brand sold last year's production stock. Not really surprising, we were the first to be surprised to see that, as if by chance, 2023 had been slightly better than 2022 (see table above), while in our country-by-country registrations for 2023we were closer to 20,000 units.

What's happening is historic, for the first time in over a decade, Maserati could produce fewer cars than Ferrari or Lamborghini. For the moment, the brand remains officially anchored in its strategy of making 100 % electric luxury cars. The latest addition, the beautiful Grancabrio Folgorewhich is a very risky bet in an immature electric vehicle market. It also remains doubts about the technical platform to be used for future models, and the CEO half-heartedly admitted that thermal power could make a comeback in certain markets

PS: we know that the Maserati teams read us, so please be aware that we're not happy about these announcements - on the contrary, it hurts our hearts.

  1. Rarely have we seen a group so poorly led...
At the same time, the guys were making 208s and Berlingos, so what do you expect them to do with Maserati?

  2. It's not hard to understand.
If we assume that PSA has neither experience nor tradition in luxury goods, and that they want to manage everything without asking for the expertise of those who created Maserati, Alfa, Lancia (the Italians), what do you think will happen?
The Lancia Y is beautiful, but those headlamps need some work...
The Alfa Junior is too busy, so they'll have to change the grille... you'll see. Otherwise, it'll only be bought by tuning enthusiasts. I weep. Keep your Giulia and Stelvio, because if the new ones look like the Junior, then...they'll have no choice but to sell the brand.
Piech knew Alfa's potential. I'd have preferred it to go to the Germans, at least they would have respected the work of the Italian designers...
    Pièce had understood

    • If you're telling us that the engineers at Maserati's stellantis version are reading you!
      The launch of a new, six-cylinder 2.4
Wouldn't cost much and would lower sales even further. I meant the price of Maseratis
In fact, all you have to do is pair up two pur tech 1.2 engines to create the Bi puretech 2.4. Keeping, above all, the two oily timing belts that have made this engine so successful!
This will solve the Maserati problem!
I'm going to file a patent

    • I more than agree with this comment, what a sad fate that reserved for Italian brands by this pathetic stellantis.

  3. MASERATI, for me, will always evoke the words of a Paolo Conte song:
    - the power
    - a smell of leather
    - and a woman's perfume
    ❤️‍🔥

  4. they're completely out of their depth in this group, betting everything on electrics for a brand like Maserati is suicide in the making....or on purpose!

  5. Bonjour a Tous et a Toutes
    Personally, I'm of Italian origin
Eight months ago, I offered myself
    A QUATTROPORTE V8 DUO SELECT
    With a follow-up to 100 % MASERATI
The condition is close to new It is still there Production all assembled by hand and the V8 from FERRARI Well on F 430 and 360 MODENA.
The rear lights are superb in these years 2003 to 2012 what a pity that MASERATI arrives at a point almost of no return because in addition the ecological malus can reach tens and tens of thousands of euros of what to discourage the possible purchasers.
PEUGEOT Pour Moi Can't meet the challenge
It is not their product and never will be in my opinion. A seasoned enthusiast.

  6. Working at Stellantis , PSA and even the current CEO have nothing to do with maserati's current setbacks.
1 Maseratis are built by Italians in Modena (except for the chassis of SUVs made in Turin or Detroit).
2 it's the old management that wanted to make volume (like ford with jaguar)
3 and this is my personal opinion, the style isn't very modern (compared to its Italian competitors).

    • Funny, you think your Peugeots have a style to get on your knees, personally I'm not convinced, for me they are soap boxes.

  7. New models do not sound good and are ugly!
As an owner of two Maseratis, I'm looking for a new Corvette C8...
