The former Top Gear Stig has driven every modern Lamborghini: his favorite isn't the one you'd expect

For eight years, Ben Collins, better known as «The Stig» in Top Gear, pushed some of the fastest cars on the planet to their limits. Among them were many Lamborghini, which he has watched evolve over the generations. Looking back, his verdict is clear: the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based automaker has made tremendous progress, to the point that some of its recent models are among his favorites.

Lamborghini has struck the right balance

For Ben Collins, this evolution is particularly evident in the family Aventador. He explains that each version has contributed to the overall design. The Aventador SV has become lighter, more powerful, and offers greater downforce, while the Aventador S introduced four-wheel steering, a technology that, in his view, completely transforms the car’s handling.

In his view, the Aventador S even represents the best compromise in the lineup. «I think the Aventador S strikes the right balance,» he explains, noting that the four-wheel steering truly transforms the driving experience. On the other hand, he’s far less convinced by the Aventador SVJ. While he acknowledges its performance, he finds its styling a bit excessive. With its very flashy aerodynamics and numerous appendages, he feels Lamborghini has gone too far visually. In his view, the SV remains more elegant, while the S is simply the best to drive.

The Huracán Sterrato, her absolute favorite

If Ben Collins had to choose a modern Lamborghini, it wouldn’t be an Aventador. His favorite is the Huracán Sterrato. The former Top Gear host describes this raised version as an «awesome» car—and, above all, incredibly fun to drive. He enthusiastically explains that it lets you power over speed bumps at high speed without a care in the world, even joking that it should simply be called «the Lamborghini.».

He also recommends keeping it with its 19-inch wheels and all-terrain tires—a setup that perfectly aligns with its philosophy. To him, the Sterrato is the perfect example of Lamborghini’s ability to think outside the box while staying true to its DNA.

The STO is impressive… but tiring to drive

Ben Collins is also full of praise for the Huracán STO. He highlights its excellent chassis and dynamic handling, admitting he was surprised by its level of precision. However, he quickly tempers his enthusiasm. After driving it for many kilometers, he feels that the STO remains very stiff on open roads and that it truly reveals its potential on the track. For more versatile use, he clearly prefers the Huracán Performante, which he finds more enjoyable for everyday driving.

Ultimately, the former Stig’s assessment is crystal clear: Lamborghini has made tremendous progress over the years. Recent models no longer merely impress with their power or spectacular design; they now offer much more refined handling and distinctly different personalities. According to Ben Collins, this evolution now places the Italian brand among the most compelling automakers to drive.
