To celebrate reaching two million subscribers, this YouTuber treated himself to a rather spectacular new toy: a Lamborghini Aventador Yellow SVJ Roadster. An acquisition that wasn’t really planned, though. A huge BMW fan and owner of numerous sports cars from the German brand, he explains that he stumbled upon an opportunity he couldn’t refuse. This SVJ is practically brand-new, with only 2,000 km on the odometer, and has just finished its break-in period. Rather than simply showing it off on camera, he came up with an idea: to take it to the track and pit it against several of his other BMWs.
A Lamborghini Takes on an Army of BMWs
On paper, the Lamborghini has some serious strengths. Its naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 produces 770 ch, while its single-clutch automatic transmission delivers particularly aggressive gear shifts. But the point of this day isn’t just to find out which car is the fastest.
«The most important thing is to have fun,» sums up the YouTuber, who wants to compare the cars based on their lap times, but especially on the driving experience they provide. And even before hitting the track, he’s already convinced that a BMW could beat the Lamborghini in this category.
At the SVJ event, the lineup is eclectic to say the least, featuring 9 BMWs from very different generations and with very different design philosophies. There’s a G81 M3 Touring tuned to around 700 ch, a similarly tuned G80 M3, and a G87 M2 with about 680 ch. Alongside them are a heavily modified M4 F82 producing about 750 ch, an M5 F10 with a twin-turbo V8 approaching 900 ch, and a tuned 335i, designed more for acceleration than for the track.
But the older models are also in the mix. The YouTuber brings his V8-powered E93 M3—rated at about 450 ch—as well as an E30 M3, which is much less powerful but also significantly lighter. The most unusual car in the group, however, is a BMW 3 Series Compact, which has been fitted with the S54 six-cylinder engine from the E46 M3, along with a supercharger to boost power to about 580 ch.
And the surprises aren’t long in coming. This tuned BMW Compact turns out to be much more capable and fun than expected—so much so that it’s been described as a true track car. The old E30 M3 also impresses with its light weight, character, and handling, despite its huge power deficit compared to modern BMWs and, of course, the Aventador SVJ’s 770 ch V12.
In the end, the Lamborghini didn't win
In the lap times, the BMW M3 Touring G81 ultimately took first place with a lap time of 2 minutes, ahead of the M2 at 2 min 04 s. Following them were the M4, the Compact, and the powerful M5 F10.
And what about the Lamborghini? It finished further back. But this result should be taken with a big grain of salt: its new owner readily admits that he didn’t push it to its limits. With a car that’s practically brand-new and worth, according to him, nearly €800,000, there was no way he was going to put the brakes, transmission, or chassis through the wringer—or risk getting hit by flying gravel. Ultimately, this showdown reminds us of one thing above all: 770 ch and a bull on the hood aren’t necessarily enough to make a car the most fun on the track—especially if you’re afraid of ending up in the gravel trap.
