Ferrari is not just a man's business. In China, the world's most populous country and one of the most important for the luxury car market, the Italian brand has conquered the hearts and wallets of women.
According to sources close to the matter quoted by Bloomberg, 26 % of the supercars sold by Ferrari over the last five years in the Middle Kingdom were acquired by female customers. This is an absolute record for the Maranello-based automaker, which had never before had more than a quarter of its customers be women.
This impressive figure testifies to the change in mentality and behavior of Chinese consumers, who are increasingly attracted by prestigious, high-performance cars.
It also reflects Ferrari's strategy of adapting its offer and image to this demanding and passionate female audience, with the Roma and more recently the Purosangue.
In mainland China, not including Hong Kong and Taiwan, Ferrari sold around 1,600 vehicles last year, twice as many as a few years ago. The region now accounts for 12% of Ferrari's worldwide sales, making it a strategic market for the prancing horse firm.
