Rent an SUV Ferrari Purosangue, ship it to South America, and set out to conquer the Pan-American Highway all the way to the far reaches of Alaska. That’s the completely crazy challenge taken on by a German. Accidents, rutted roads, brake failure, and stretches at nearly 5,000 meters above sea level: his Ferrari At nearly 500,000 euros, it has seen more than some adventurers. And the adventure has now surpassed 51,000 kilometers.
A Ferrari Purosangue isn’t exactly an ordinary car to begin with. But MJ’s is even less so. This German from Dortmund decided to put Maranello’s V12 to use in a way that few owners would even dare to imagine: driving it across the Americas. His goal? To travel from Ushuaia, in the far south of Argentina, to Deadhorse, in the far north of Alaska. He undertook this journey largely with Rico, his dog, riding along as his co-pilot. According to his posts, the adventure covered 51,760 km and spanned 17 countries.
A Ferrari on the «Road of Death»
The story begins after the Purosangue was shipped from Europe to Montevideo, Uruguay. Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru… MJ doesn’t specifically choose roads where you’d expect to see a Ferrari. In particular, he claims to be the first person to have driven a Ferrari on Bolivia’s famous «Death Road.» His Purosangue has also climbed to an altitude of 4,950 meters. Up there, between the lack of oxygen and poor-quality local fuel, the naturally aspirated V12 began to struggle.
A major accident and six months of repairs
The adventure could have ended much sooner, however. On June 3, 2025, between Cusco and Nazca in Peru, MJ was involved in a serious accident. With a broken front axle, the Purosangue had to be transported some 3,300 km to Santiago, Chile.
The repairs sidelined the Ferrari for six months. MJ set off again anyway. But the troubles continued. In Bolivia, an electronic problem required diagnosis using a specific Ferrari tool. He recounts having to drive a long distance to Santiago without brake assistance. Later, in El Salvador, a collision with a motorcycle damaged another door.
And Rico is still in the passenger seat
After South America come Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, the United States, and then Canada. Even his dog, Rico, sometimes complicates logistics: without the necessary documents to take him to Panama right away, MJ had to leave him in Costa Rica before traveling nearly 950 km to pick him up. The German finally reached Deadhorse, Alaska, before attempting a new challenge: breaking the record for crossing the Pan-American Highway in the opposite direction.
But in July 2026, after four promising days, a collapsed tunnel on the road to Guatemala forced a detour of more than 600 km. At the same time, warnings about the Ferrari’s suspension and chassis began to surface. The attempt was abandoned. A setback rather than a conclusion. His Instagram bio still reads «70,000+ km» and, most importantly, «Next attempt loading…».
