Ferrari: This 296 is reserved for drivers, and its V6 engine produces 880 hp… but that wasn’t enough for its owner, who tuned it up to 1,000 hp

One year ago, Ferrari unveiled one of the most exclusive versions of its hybrid supercar: the Ferrari 296 Speciale Piloti. This model is so unique that even a well-stocked bank account isn’t enough to guarantee you’ll get one. Reserved for drivers competing in Ferrari’s official racing programs, this limited edition was conceived as a reward for those who represent Maranello on the racetrack.

But for one of the few owners who had access to this already exceptional Ferrari, the stock performance was clearly not enough. As a result, his 296 Speciale Piloti has just reached a symbolic milestone that even Ferrari hadn't dared to achieve.

A Ferrari Born with a Competitive Spirit

Unveiled at the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Ferrari 296 Speciale Piloti pays tribute to the brand’s successes in the FIA World Endurance Championship with the 499P, which won at Le Mans in 2023, 2024, and 2025. It proudly embraces its racing heritage, notably through a livery inspired by the No. 51 car driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, and Antonio Giovinazzi.

This special edition stands out for its unique color scheme, Giallo Modena accents, a hand-painted Italian flag on the front shield, its WEC logo, and an interior that incorporates several design elements from the world of racing. Alcantara inspired by drivers’ fire-retardant suits, carbon fiber, custom door sills… everything reminds you that this Ferrari is not a 296 like any other.

Under the hood, Ferrari had already set the bar very high. Its 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, paired with an electric motor, produces 880 hp, enabling a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed exceeding 330 km/h. Impressive numbers… but not impressive enough for this owner.

Will the first Ferrari 296 Speciale Piloti exceed 1,000 ch?

It was in Italy, at Brill Steel Motorsport, that this 296 Speciale Piloti underwent a particularly extensive modification. The specialist claims to have surpassed the 1,000 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque marks, potentially making this car the first Ferrari 296 Speciale Piloti to reach such a high power level.

The project was unveiled in a video posted on social media, showing the car mounted on a dynamometer. It’s an impressive advancement, especially considering that this Ferrari is already one of the highest-performing models ever built using Maranello’s V6 hybrid architecture.

And the story isn’t likely to end there. Brill Steel Motorsport is already announcing new modifications to come, including an even more spectacular exhaust system capable of producing flames… After all, this Ferrari is already rare, but even the most exclusive models from Maranello sometimes end up in the hands of customers who want to take things even further.
