A year ago, we told you this story, which was unusual to say the least of this Japanese Ferrari 458 Italia. While many of these cars spend most of their lives tucked away in a garage, building up value, this one already had 390,000 km on the odometer. An exceptional mileage for a Maranello supercar, achieved at the cost of a few mechanical mishaps and several fender benders. At the time, one question arose almost naturally: would it reach 400,000 km? We now have the answer.
We've hit 400,000 km!
The Japanese owner of this 458 Italia continues to document the life of his Ferrari, and on April 19, 2026, he posted a particularly symbolic video. With the camera trained on the dashboard, he captured the final meters before reaching the long-awaited milestone. The odometer reads 399,999 km, then finally jumps to 400,000 km.
A rather surreal scene when you think about a Ferrari 458 Italia. Its owner points out that this distance is equivalent to about ten laps around the Earth. The story is all the more remarkable because we know exactly where this adventure began. The Ferrari was delivered to him on July 28, 2011, at Rosso Himonya in Japan. It therefore took just under fifteen years to cover those 400,000 km—an average of nearly 27,000 km per year. That’s a pace that some everyday cars don’t even reach.
In contrast to the vintage Ferrari
However, there is an important caveat to this record mileage. As we explained last year, the Ferrari It didn't make it this far without major repairs. In 2023, its original naturally aspirated V8 engine gave out. In June of that same year, a used engine was installed, allowing the 458 to get back on the road.

And that’s just one of many incidents. Used very regularly and in all kinds of weather, the Ferrari has experienced the minor and major hassles of a car that’s actually driven. In 2017, for example, its front bumper was struck by a car that was backing up. Another accident that same year led to a two-and-a-half-year battle with the insurance company. In 2022, its side mirror was also snagged while passing another car. Even the V8’s valve covers had eventually lost some of their famous red paint, a result of numerous car washes and the many kilometers driven in the rain.

And that’s ultimately what makes this 458 Italia so interesting. It’s no longer just a supercar with a spectacular mileage reading—it tells the story of nearly fifteen years of intensive use. When it was unveiled in 2009, the 458 Italia featured a naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V8 engine producing 570 ch. Today, it has become a particularly sought-after Ferrari, and models with low mileage are, of course, highly prized by collectors.

This Japanese owner took the exact opposite approach. His Ferrari has been driven hard, been in accidents, had its engine replaced, and racked up the kilometers. And after the 390,000 km we mentioned in August 2025, the milestone we’d been waiting for was finally reached eight months later. 400,000 km on the odometer. And clearly, the story of this 458 Italia is far from over. We’ll be here for the 500,000 km milestone!
