Seven years after orders opened and five months after the first unit was delivered, the De Tomaso P72 continues to turn heads. Already spotted in Germany then in Monaco, the spectacular Italian supercar has just made an appearance on the streets of Zurich, Switzerland. It was a particularly rare sighting, captured by two car spotters, given that production of this model is limited to just 72 units.
A De Tomaso P72 that certainly turns heads in Zurich
It was on the streets of Zurich that the De Tomaso P72 was recently spotted. The car spotter mare_cars was lucky enough to film it, while shaun.cars was able to take several photographs of this extraordinary car.

In the photos, the supercar seems almost too wide for the narrow cobblestone streets of the Swiss town. With its midnight blue body, accents of rose gold, and lines inspired by 1960s race car prototypes, it’s hard to mistake it for a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. The doors that open upward, the circular taillights, and the side mirrors mounted on long stems further enhance its spectacular appearance.

But what makes this appearance particularly interesting is that it is not a prototype. This is indeed the first P72 intended for a customer, unveiled just five months ago.
A seven-year wait for the first shipment
To understand the significance of this unveiling, we need to go back to 2019. That year, De Tomaso unveiled the P72 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, promising to produce 72 units of a supercar that was as exclusive as it was original.
It wasn't until June 2026 that the first model intended for a private owner was finally unveiled. Named «Aurelian Night», this P72 stands out with a fully customized design inspired by the atmosphere of a summer evening at sunset. Its midnight blue paint is complemented by numerous hand-polished rose gold accents. Inside, Venetian blue leather covers much of the cabin, while the circular gauges and the spectacular gearshift knob give the impression of stepping into a car from another era.

Since its unveiling, this P72 has already been spotted on German roads, then in Monaco, before making this latest stop in Switzerland.
A 700 HP supercar that other customers are still waiting for
Beneath its curves, however, lies a very modern powertrain. The De Tomaso P72 is equipped with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine originally from Ford, tuned by Roush Performance, producing approximately 700 HP and over 800 Nm of torque. This is paired with a six-speed manual transmission—a choice that has become a rarity in the world of supercars.

And while this first P72 is making more and more appearances, other customers are still waiting for theirs. This is particularly true for Timothy Scheek, who recently explained that he ordered his car three years ago. After seeing the car in Monaco, he didn’t hesitate to say that next to it, «A Ferrari looks like a Volkswagen».

For now, this «Aurelian Night» remains the only customer P72 whose delivery has been publicly announced. And judging by its appearance in Zurich, it’s sure to continue turning heads. It remains to be seen when the other 71 cars will begin to be delivered to their owners.

Pretty!
It looks just like an Alfagani!
