The announcement of Lewis Hamilton to join Ferrari for 2025 Formula 1 season is attracting a great deal of interest. At almost 40 years of age, the seven-time world champion is embarking on a new adventure with one of the biggest names in the history of the F1. But after a 2024 season in which, for the first time in his career, Hamilton was beaten by his Mercedes team-mate, George Russell. So the question arises: how would Hamilton's unique driving style suit the Ferrari SF-25?
Lewis Hamilton's driving style
Lewis Hamilton is known for its mastery of the braking-turning transition. His technique consists of braking late and hard, creating a heavy front-end load, before releasing the brakes just as the rear of the car begins to rotate. This sense of timing and ability to manage the car's rotation enabled Hamilton to maintain optimum control, maximizing the grip of his tires. However, it's not enough, this driving style is highly dependent on the characteristics chassis and vehicle settings.
Since the introduction of ground effect cars in 2022Mercedes' low ride height and anti-dive suspension geometry neutralized Hamilton's natural ability to exploit his braking technique. The British driver was unable to capitalize on his ability to induce rapid vehicle rotation, a situation that limited his performance despite consistent driving quality. With the flexibility of Mercedes' new front wing in 2024, the situation worsened.
Ferrari SF-25: an F1 that might be better suited to Hamilton
The Ferrari SF-25, meanwhile, could provide a more favorable environment for Hamilton's driving style. Recent Ferraris have performed particularly well in low-speed corners, an area where Charles Leclerc's driving style has always been a major asset. If the Scuderia Ferrari maintains a configuration focused on mechanics and low-speed cornering, this could work in Hamilton's favourwhich could provide better grip and control.
Unlike recent Mercedes, the Ferrari could enable Hamilton to make better use of his vehicle rotation management skills. Hamilton, ist der beste F1 Pilot den es je gab. Um zu gewinnen braucht man natürlich auch ein funktionierendes Fahrzeug. Bei Ferrari wird er das bekommen. Dann wird er allen krikern zeigen wehr der Beste ist den es je gab. Dazu kommt, in den Jahren seiner Karriere eine gewachsene grosse Persönlichkeit.
Geprägt von korrektheit, ohne scandale,
und ein überaus sozialer, in keiner weise überheblichen Umgang in seinem gesamten Umfeld. Der weiße Mann hat eben immer noch, so seine Probleme, mit der Anerkennung der Werte von Menschen die etwas anders sind, beginnend im aussehen. Das bringt nochmals Gegenwind in einer Sportkariere wie die F1. Um so wertvoller und einzigartig schätze ich Hamiltons Erfolge. Er ist und bleibt " the Best there e er was "
Gemäss Fred Vasseur wird der 2025 massiv umgebaut und wahrscheinlich eine andere Charakteristika aufweisen, könnte also alles ganz anders kommen als im Artikel dargestellt, für Hamilton also vielleicht ein ähnliches Schlamassel wie bei Mercedes, nur dass er bei Ferrari einen noch stärkeren Teamkollegen haben wird und die Ferraristi nicht soviel Geduld aufweisen. Wird auf alle Fälle lustig, mitanzusehen.
Hamilton, als einem der besten Fahrer, Racer in der F1. Bei keinem anderen habe ich dieses mit dem Auto zu einer Einheit Verschmelzen gesehen. Es gab sensationelle, smarte Fahrten von unglaublicher Schönheit. Wenn es Hamilton gelingt das Ferrari-Team zu deren höchster Leistung zu motivieren, kann aussergewöhnliche Performance erreicht werden. Freuen wir uns darauf!
