Bertone revives a 1969 concept car in the «Nero Aureo» configuration: a 475 ch V6 engine, with only 25 units produced

A few months after introducing us to his spectacular Runabout at the Ultimate Supercar Show in Paris, Bertone is already back with a new take on its neo-retro roadster. Named Nero Aureo, this configuration does not alter the car’s technical specifications, but takes the customization options offered to the 25 future owners a step further. More than just a combination of colors, Bertone presents this version as a true design study, true to the philosophy of the brand’s Centro Stile.

A Runabout that's more elegant than ever

The Bertone Runabout is already a standout in today’s automotive landscape. Inspired by the Autobianchi A112 Runabout concept car designed by Marcello Gandini in 1969, it combines a bold wedge-shaped silhouette, retractable headlights, a mid-rear engine, and a six-speed manual transmission—all produced in a limited run of just 25 units.

With Nero Aureo, the design takes on even more character. The body features a very deep shade that shifts between black and dark green, highlighting the car’s taut lines. Bertone adds touches of champagne gold along the body line, on the wheels, and on several body panels, highlighting the distinctive edges of this Gandini-designed silhouette.

A cozier interior

Inside, the atmosphere has also changed. While the exterior embraces a minimalist style, the cabin features warm materials. Deep green adorns the upper portion of the dashboard, while cognac-colored leather covers the seats and center console. Ivory accents and champagne-colored trim complete the look.

The contrast works particularly well with the exposed carbon-fiber elements, serving as a reminder that this car remains a true sports car despite its luxurious finish. As with the other Runabout models, Bertone maintains its deliberately analog approach with a clearly visible manual gearshift, a sleekly designed steering wheel, and an interior where hand-stitched leather takes center stage.

A one-of-a-kind piece—one of only 25 made

This Nero Aureo isn’t a special edition in the strict sense of the term. It’s a configuration offered by Bertone Centro Stile, the department responsible for working with each of the 25 buyers to customize their cars. Since every Runabout is essentially custom-built, no two are expected to be identical. This new offering perfectly illustrates that philosophy: starting from the same technical foundation—an aluminum chassis derived from Lotus, paired with a supercharged 475 ch Toyota V6 and a manual transmission—while offering each customer a unique visual identity.

With a starting price of €390,000 (excluding tax)—plus numerous customization options—the Bertone Runabout is establishing itself more than ever as a collector’s car even before the first deliveries.
