At Automotive Dealer Day, one of the major events in the European automotive sector, Jean-Philippe Imparato, European Director of Stellantis, confirmed ambitious plans for Italy, including the Maserati brand.
Imparato stressed the importance of "Piano Italia", an initiative presented in December 2024 by the Italian government and Stellantis. This plan aims to revitalize domestic automotive production, and Maserati, the Group's historic brand, will not be left behind. According to Imparato, the plan includes several key projects, including the launch of a new hybrid version of the Fiat 500 at Mirafiori, and the production of a compact model at Melfi. But it's Maserati that's getting the most attention.
"In a few days' time, I'll be meeting the government to take stock of engine production, but also of Maserati. In June, there will be an update on the Italian Plan [...] We don't want to downsize or leave Italy. The battle is being won here", insisted Imparato, also announcing concrete projects for Maserati in Modena.
This announcement is a continuation of the difficult situation experienced by Maserati in recent years. The brand's business model was undermined by the lack of renewals for iconic models such as the Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante. In addition, the launch of flagship models such as the MC20 and GranTurismo, well received by the press, did not meet with the commercial success hoped for, due to prices deemed too high by some. The 100 % electric option, "Folgore", was launched with the ambition of revolutionizing Maserati's image, but did not meet with the expected success.
However, a wind of renewal seems to be blowing through the brand. With the arrival of Santo Ficili as CEO in October 2024, Maserati has set about turning things around. Speaking in February 2025, Ficili promised a clear roadmap for the months ahead, aiming to " making all our long-standing customers happy" .
Despite months of anticipation and silence concerning a new product plan, we announced it exclusively on italpassion a month ago, that Maserati may well present its plans before the end of June 2025. This coincides strangely with Stellantis' deadline for appointing its future CEO, a key event that could kick-start the long-awaited relaunch.
Espero, deseo y ojalá ocurra que Maserati reviva en Italia y no caiga en manos chinas. La historia tiene que continuar pero en Modena.
Only good plan is to lower the prices. Put same prices like Porsche and than MC 20 and Grand Turismo will sell. Watched a lot of YouTubers, they all said same thing Maserati is too expensive, and they would buy it for normal price.
They need to stop pretending to be a luxury brand!!!!
