He buys a 410hp Maserati Ghibli V6 «Nerissimo»... for the price of a Fiat 500

Just a few years ago, treating yourself to a Maserati was an unattainable dream. In 2017, this Italian sedan with a Ferrari-sourced twin-turbo V6 was selling for around €80,000, and for over €100,000 when properly configured. Today, however, an example has just been sold for $20,000 in the United States, or around €17,000. The price of a new city car. The price of a Fiat 500. Yes, you read that right.

An intriguing auction

The car in question is a Maserati Ghibli S Nerissimo Edition from 2017, sold on the Cars & Bids platform in February 2026 after 17 auctions. It has 71,700 miles (115,400 km) and is located in Virginia.

Under the hood, the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 develops 410 hp and 550 Nm, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. At the time, Maserati was seeking to compete with German sedans while retaining a true mechanical signature. The result: a sound and character that many consider far more exotic than a classic rival.

A Nerissimo configuration

This is no ordinary Ghibli. It's the special Nerissimo Edition, produced in just 450 units for the USA and Canada. 20-inch gloss black Urano wheels, red calipers, black exterior inserts, Nero interior with red stitching and Harman Kardon audio system: the whole package exudes contrast and elegant aggression.

The owner had added a few personal touches, such as gold accents, a carbon-fiber rear spoiler and slightly tinted lights. Nothing mechanical, just cosmetic.

In terms of maintenance, the file mentions the replacement of spark plugs, front brake discs, engine oil changes and glazing repairs on several occasions, as well as various recent jobs (tires, air-conditioning compressor, Brembo brakes). Some of these were carried out without invoices, which fuelled some skeptical comments during the auction.

From €80,000 to €17,000

How can such a discount be explained? The answer lies in several factors. First, the massive depreciation of premium thermal sedans, accentuated in recent years. Secondly, the Trident brand's complicated sales in the United States. Finally, its mileage.

A used Maserati at a knock-down price may seem like an exceptional bargain. But behind the €17,000 purchase price potentially lies a V6 engine, specific parts and bills that can climb very quickly, especially in the USA.

For the new owner, however, it's hard to deny the appeal. For the price of a new city car, he'll walk away with an Italian sedan with over 400 horsepower, capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds, with a presence and sound that few modern cars can match in this price range.

The real question is simple: would you have dared?
