Lamborghini Delivers Its 5th Car to the Police… Except That the 920 HP Is Used to Save Lives

When Lamborghini Handing over the keys to a supercar with more than 900 HP to the Italian police isn’t exactly about going after drivers who are in too much of a hurry. The Sant’Agata Bolognese-based automaker has just unveiled a Temerario specially prepared for the State Police, continuing a collaboration that began more than twenty years ago. And behind the flashing lights and the striking blue-and-white livery lies a much more serious mission: transporting organs when every minute counts in saving a life.

After the Gallardo, the Huracán, and the Urus, it’s time for the Temerario

It all began in 2004 with the first Lamborghini Gallardo delivered to the Italian police. A second one followed in 2005, before the arrival of the Gallardo LP 560-4 in 2008, and then the Huracán LP 610-4 in 2014. More recently, in 2023, Lamborghini delivered a 666 HP Urus Performante to the Polizia di Stato.

The Temerario thus becomes the fifth different Lamborghini model to bear the colors of the Italian police. And this time, the Polizia is getting a particularly formidable vehicle.

920 HP to get there on time

Beneath its blue-and-white bodywork, the Lamborghini Temerario retains its impressive plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is paired with three electric motors, delivering a combined output of 920 HP. Power is transmitted through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Its performance figures give a sense of its potential: 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 343 km/h.

But this Temerario obviously shouldn’t be using its performance capabilities for routine patrols. Like several Lamborghini models used by the Polizia before it, its primary mission will be the urgent transport of organs and medical supplies throughout Italy. Lamborghini has not yet revealed many details about its specific modifications, but the vehicle already features a light bar, «Polizia» markings, and the colors of the Italian flag.

More than 200 organ transports since 2004

It is this figure, above all, that helps explain why this collaboration is more than just a public relations stunt. Since 2004, more than 200 organ transports have been carried out using the Italian police’s Lamborghinis.

In fact, certain missions have demonstrated the value of having vehicles capable of covering long distances very quickly. In particular, a Huracán was used to transport a kidney as a matter of urgency between Rome and Padua—nearly 500 km in 3 hours. The Polizia's Lamborghinis have also participated in more than 1,500 events dedicated to road safetyfirst in a little over twenty years.

So yes, seeing a 920 HP Lamborghini Temerario with a flashing light on the roof is pretty unlikely. But behind the spectacular image lies a very practical use for its performance. For once, arriving a few minutes early isn’t just about setting a record—it can actually save a life.
