Fifteen years later, the Italian flag is flying once again over a Lamborghini. During Monterey Car Week, the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based company unveiled the Temerario Tricolore, a one-of-a-kind creation that revives a name that had been dormant since the 2011 Gallardo LP 550-2 Tricolore. It follows the same patriotic theme, but there’s a radical change under the hood: the naturally aspirated V10 has been replaced by a 920 HP hybrid V8 engine.
The Tricolore is therefore not a new model in the strict sense of the word. This Temerario was conceived by the Lamborghini Centro Stile in collaboration with the Ad Personam customization program as a celebration of Italian craftsmanship, design, and identity. It also arrives just in time to mark the 20th anniversary of the Ad Personam program.
From the Gallardo to the Temerario: a 15-year gap
To understand this new model, we have to go back to 2011. That was when Lamborghini unveiled the Gallardo LP 550-2 Tricolore, designed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italian unification. Its signature design was instantly recognizable: a green, white, and red stripe ran lengthwise along the car, from the hood to the rear spoiler, while the theme was even reflected in the stitching on the seats.
This Gallardo was based primarily on a formula that has become particularly desirable today: rear-wheel drive and a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine producing 550 HP. The new Temerario Tricolore marks a complete shift in era. With its 920 HP, the Temerario delivers 370 HP more.
The Italian flag changes its backdrop
The family resemblance is immediately apparent. Lamborghini has retained the three national colors on the hood, but this time incorporates them into a much more elaborate design. The upper portion of the body is painted in Bianco Monocerus, while the lower sections are finished in Blu Marinus Shiny.
Glossy Nero Noctis accents appear on the side mirrors, wheels, and various body panels, complemented by red brake calipers. Inside the cabin, Lamborghini combines Nero Ade upholstery with Rosso Alala stitching and hexagonal patterns. The «Tricolore» inscription embroidered on the door panels further underscores the unique character of this model.
920 HP to usher the Tricolore into a new era
But the most dramatic change lies behind the seats. Gone is the Gallardo’s V10: the Temerario combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of reaching 10,000 rpm with three electric motors. The powertrain produces 920 HP. Performance, unsurprisingly, reaches a whole new level. Lamborghini claims a 0 to 100 km/h time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed exceeding 340 km/h.
The Temerario Tricolore thus embodies fifteen years of evolution at Lamborghini. In 2011, the tricolor stripe celebrated Italy on a rear-wheel-drive Gallardo powered by a large naturally aspirated V10. In 2026, it returns on an electrified supercar with nearly twice the power. The symbol, however, has not changed: beneath the green, white, and red, Lamborghini still aims to remind us that, before being a global brand, it remains deeply Italian.
