Fiat has been in the midst of renewing its range over the past few months. the launch of its new Grande Pandaa model that has captured attention with its neo-retro design. Fiat is already planning its next move: a new family model that could well revive the legendary Multipla or perhaps even under the evocative name of "Giga Panda". Whatever the case, this new arrival marks another important step in the Italian brand's strategy.
The rebirth of an icon
Fiat has always been able to surprise with its emblematic models, and the return of the Multiplaor rather the arrival of the Giga Pandacould well be another landmark announcement. This new iteration is expected in 2025and speculation is rife as to its appearance and features. According to early reports, the Giga Panda will share its platform with the recent Citroën C3 Aircross and the new Opel Frontera, suggesting a spacious vehicle capable of competing with the most popular models on the market.
With a length estimated at approximately 4.40 metres (vs. 4 meters for the Grande Panda), this new model promises generous space, ideal for families. Five- and seven-seater versions are expected to be offered, to meet the diverse needs of consumers. Like the Grande Panda, this new Fiat will be available in 100 % electric and hybrid versions.
A design that will get people talking
The design of this new Giga Panda or Multipla is still a mystery, although some hints have been distilled at recent events. A pixelated image shown at the presentation of the Grande Panda aroused curiosity, revealing an imposing silhouette while retaining the new Fiat styling.
Several unofficial renderings by amateur designers have been circulating on the web, including a video rendering by YouTuber Mahboub1. The latter imagines a Giga Panda with pronounced lines, a slightly raised roof and a distinctive front grille that recalls both a little of the original Multipla and mainly the modernism of the new Grande Panda. The front lights could adopt an LED signature similar to that of the Grande Panda, while the sides of the vehicle would display three-dimensional details.
A new family vehicle
Beyond its design, the future Giga Panda promises to be a family vehicle, combining space, comfort and technology. Designed as a spacious C-SUV, it will be positioned above the Grande Panda in the Fiat range, offering a larger alternative. The vehicle will be built on the STLA Smart platform from Stellantisa multi-energy base that will enable Fiat to offer both internal combustion and electric versions, adapted to different world markets.
Production of this model will take place at the Stellantis plant in Kenitra, Morocco, where the Fiat Topolino, Citroën AMI and Peugeot 208 are already produced. This new model will take the place of the Fiat Tipo as the spearhead of the range, with the ambition of becoming one of the brand's best-selling vehicles. As a reminder, the Fiat 500L, produced from 2012 to 2022, sold over 600,000 units.
The new Citropel Frontera with a FIAT logo... Stellantis, automotive passion...
Let's be honest, the overall design of stellantis is horrible. There's not an ounce of elegance, of tangible design in what we're shown. I don't mind that fiat didn't sublimate us with the beauty of some of its past models, but here we're completely missing the point.
